This one has a bit better build quality than others used, particularly the plastic sides. The #12 cord is a big plus, often a mandatory requirement on many job sites.
The molded cord end illuminates and incorporates an attachment to clip on to the cord after it is rolled up.
Have bought two so far and will order a third. As soon as two co-workers saw them, they each bought mine on the spot!
Including photos just taken. In hopes this may assist with your purchase decision.
Pictures are of one of the three cord reels purchased.
All have seen heavy use daily on large commercial construction sites for about 13 months now. Many cords often plugged into unit at once.
Still fully functioning and without damage. No issues with illuminating switch, cord ends, six receptacles and ect.
The plastic reel itself seems to be UV stable as it has not cracked, chipped or became brittle from the extreme Phoenix Az summer. A problem that has occurred with other brand cord reels.
Would be nice if available in a longer length and still in a number #12. Thinking 75 feet, or close to it. One of the big box home improvement stores used to carry a 100 foot unit in #14. Often rejected on jobsites do to the lighter cord and it did not hold up a year.
If you're looking at a 12 gauge extension cord, you probably know what you're doing or you'd have just gone the cheap route with a thirty dollar 16 gauge extension cord that will be a danger when you hook up a high amperage device. Then, like me, you started looking around at your options. Amazon has some great products for the commercial market with 12 gauge cables, metal reels, self-winding, wall mount, etc., but man, they are all hundreds of dollars and here I am just wanting something simple to run some tools occasionally.
If you go into it knowing you're basically getting a high quality 12 gauge cable on a cheap plastic reel, then you're going to be very happy with your purchase. It's not the easiest thing to roll back up onto the reel, but is that really a big deal? No. It's a cool green color that is easy to see, there's a light in the plug and on the base to let you know it's powered, you get six outlets instead of two or four like most others and it seems to take a fair amount of abuse. I'm sure over the years it won't last as long as the three hundred plus competitors, but I can buy three more of these before I'd break even, so that works for me.
I have two problems with this. The first is the knob to wind the cord back up. It's way too small and it should spin to make the whole process easier. It's a minor thing, but one I believe is going to bother me more in the future. The second is what a few others have stated. The reel just free wheels. There's no friction to keep it from just unwinding non-stop. The reel needs something to cure this. I've thought about putting something on the upright of the handle to hit against the open holes of the reel--kind of like a Wheel of Fortune type thing. I just haven't gotten to figuring out what that something is.
All in all, it's a decent reel and one which you'll be happy with for the most part.

It is really nice to have a 12 gauge extension cord with six outlets. Some complain that it free-wheels, and I agree it is a bit annoying. Read morePublished 6 days ago by Thomas G Rasmussen
This is a good reel cord for the price. But, the description details did not provide the information that the product contains lead, so the user should wash hands after handling. Read morePublished 18 days ago by D Pennington
Purchased two for use in my barn. As other reviewers have pointed out, the reel is pretty cheap plastic but the extension cord seems to be high quality and you just need to keep in... Read morePublished 27 days ago by Chris Reynolds
Great for gauge and number of sockets. The "reeling' function leaves a lot to be desired. A loop over one end of the frame to guide the cord back onto the reel would have... Read morePublished 1 month ago by Fibrenew Folsom
