"Desires of the Deep" leaves behind the gaming world of Gentalia, turning instead to an all-species college that has recently started admitting humans. Cliff Waters, human, has been mistakenly put in the merfolk, who, it turns out, have an intense leg fetish and no shame in showing it.
If you've read the "Gentalia" books then you won't be surprised to discover that "Desires of the Deep" goes to some very, very strange places. Definitely 18+ and very kinky, with multiple episodes of m/m fantasy monster shenanigans that (in case you missed it the first time I said it) go to some very strange places. So you are forewarned. In another book the story might have come across as rather disturbing, but, like the "Gentalia" stories, this one is full of a warmhearted zest for love and life that transforms it into a delightful tale of two misfits, ahem, fitting together. A short little novelette, it would serve well as a charming pick-me-up between bouts of heavier reading or during a break, although NOT recommended for reading at work :) But in the privacy of your own home/dorm room/whatever, a heart- and body-warming little tale to read during the cold dark days of midwinter.
But gushing aside, this latest deviation from same old erotica takes us to a university full of mythical creatures and one hapless human who accidentally gets assigned to the underwater section because of his very punny name. Poor Cliff Waters is struggling to pass his suspension of disbelief class, which is understandable because not only does he have to hold his breath, but he has to fend off the advances if basically every merperson who is hot for his human legs.
Naturally, hilarity ensues, and so does the sharp wit we've all come to expect, proving that it is possible to write a great sexy genre book while skewering said genre with grace and ease.
I was laughing out loud!
The end - so ridiculous it was amazing :)

What happens when you enroll in a monster college and end up stuck in underwater classes? Butt stuff. Butt stuff happens.
The once elitist College of United Monsters (C.U.M.) has recently fallen on hard times. In order to stay afloat it has been forced to allow humans to register. Humans, in a monster school? Ridiculous! Also, monsters are real and that was probably a bigger shock to the world than one school of them allowing humans to enroll.
Cliff Waters is a ridiculous human. Mistakenly assigned to the Underwater Wing of the college, Cliff has more problems than the average student—sudden surges in popularity, sudden urges in the sexy monster student body, and being forced to hold his breath for hours at a time to attend class. Will Cliff be able to survive in the Underwater Wing of the toughest college around where everyone wants to taste a sweet piece of him?
Honestly, it serves him right for having a punny name…and attending monster college.
This was a fun read. Cliff is literally thrown in the deep end when he tries to get to his first class at C.U.M. At first he loves the attention but it wears thin fast.
I am one that generally enjoys tentacles in my stories and this one delivered which I wasn’t expecting as the description doesn’t say anything about it but it was a wonderful surprise. I loved Humboldt’s shyness and how he didn’t throw himself at Cliff like many other students did. It was great to see them find a way to be together despite there any differences including not being able to breathe underwater.
The cover art is wonderful and I loved the depiction of the story.
There is a ton of overt sex happening, “Most of the merfolk in the room were feeling themselves up while looking at him” and a lot of Cliff being chased for the chance to hump his legs. There is one purple haired classmate that Cliff thinks is interesting but he swims away whenever Cliff is near.
The humor is very in your face and at times it was too much for me. The book is only 81 pages on my iPad and that length worked well. I liked the “spying blur” aspect and the surprise of Humboldt but that ended with the sex scene. I won’t give away Humbolt’s secret but his actions weren’t for me.
