The DP-505 bidirectional QR plate is a great idea. I would use it on lens collars and larger camera bodies without L-brackets. No matter which orientation the head clamp or pano rail, the plate would match right up. No more rotating the clamp to match the one-directional QR plate.
The plate is beautifully made, but does not fit the RRS level clamps. It's slightly too small, so it slides around loose in the clamp. Since it's bidirectional, there are no stop screws to keep the attached camera or lens from sliding all the way out of the head (and onto the ground or over the cliff).
If you use Arca Swiss type clamps with screw (knob) tightening instead of quick lever, then maybe this will work for you, and you may love it.
