For those of us of a certain age this album is wonderfully respectful of bands such as The Smiths, The Cure and Siouxsie & The Banshees without trying to copy them. It is refreshing to see many bands keeping the post-punk sound and spirit alive and Desperate Journalist have excelled so far. I can highly recommend this album for its diversity and depth of quality.

This UK 4 piece band, classed as power pop and/or Indie rock, have released a fine debut album full of raucous guitars, stunning vocals and catchy songs.
The lyrics seem quite bitter/heartfelt at times, i think the opener 'control' is about self harming (?), but they throw in a couple of quieter janglier songs (remainder & distance) and the final track 'cement' is just gorgeously melancholy.
Not perfect but pretty close.
4.5 stars or 9 out of 10.
