- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2012To say that this purchase was a bargain is an understatement. In price alone, it is most affordable. But concerning the quality of these two films, this purchase is practically mandatory.
Both movies depict a free-wheeling, hedonistic NYC environment that can only be fondly recalled. Prior to Wall Street's domination of the political and social milieus of NYC today, there existed a place where non-conformity was not only acceptable but prized. This non-conformity enhanced and burnished the reputation of a city that attracted people from throughout the world - to enable one to discover one's true character and desires, and to experiment with different modes of living. Unfortunately, these philosophies have been supplanted by a Goldman Sachs-like obsession to obtain enormous wealth, smoke the most expensive cigars, and boast about owning the most impressively trendy goods. And also to equate success with the accumulation of financial assets. Never mind one's spiritual, emotional, and psychological evolution.
The initially conservative hero and heroine of these films, i.e., Jeff Daniels of "Something Wild" and Rosanna Arquette of "Desperately Seeking Susan," experience a liberation from constriction and conformity and finally are all the better for it - ending with increased and unexpected insight and accumulated knowledge and depth. Both characters actually represent us, the viewers, and we root for them to succeed - whatever path they take.
But in spite of all of the above, the films, however off-beat and enjoyable, are fantasies - just like Hollywood's Golden Age movies. Aspiration is just disguised differently.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2017Always loved both of these movies, but especially Something Wild...so quirky & unpredictable...a good mix of light & dark. Everyone's acting is good, but early Ray Liotta is fanatastic & Demme's direction is spot on. Desperately Seeking Susan very 80's, but I loved the 80's & Aiden Quinn.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2016Love Desperately Seeking Susan and was happy to replace my old VHS copy. Haven't watched the other movie yet. Desperately Seeking Susan is a fun movie with good music, find myself getting up to dance around the room while watching it. And I have always loved Aiden Quinn.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2017Viewing the film some thirty years later, it is more humorous than I recalled. And Arquette and Madonna are simply hilarious. Why no other films? That is the film question.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2013As they describe their product, this is a "Totally Awesome 80's Double Feature". Two classic films from the 80's... one with Madonna and Rosanna Arquette, and one with Melanie Griffith and Ray Liotta. Both are entertaining dramas...
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2017Movie on something wild was half of the movie😠
