About the Author
As creator's of the world's finest luxury hand paint yarns, and as an innovative contemporary design house, Alchemy Yarns of Transformation is committed to providing unsurpassed quality to the avid fiber arts enthusiast. Our goal is to synthesize the elements needed to offer the most extraordinary and satisfying knitting experience available. Combining time-honored Fine Art techniques, the highest quality custom-blended nobel fibers, and a reverence for Nature's palette, we create yarns that transcend the typical. We do not use any chemicals in dying our fiber. Only natural mordants are used in applying color to the yarns, and all dyes are environmentally friendly and 100% non-toxic. Simply put, our fibers are designed to please the senses, soothe the soul, and honor the earth. As a design house, we create templates for beautiful and unique knitwear, with an emphasis on the architectural adage of form follows function. Our designs mindfully embrace a balance of process (an enjoyable and satisfying knit, with an emphasis on relaxing into the beautiful unfolding of extraordinary color and texture) and product (fashion-forward silhouettes that create very wearable works of art). Our designs are meant to engage the creative potential in every knitter, and offer clear, step-by-step guidance to ensure a successful and enjoyable knitting journey. Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Sonoma County, our Northern California studios and farm blend with the surrounding orchards and vineyards. Here our work family practices the art of creating exquisite hand paint yarns. Our design team is composed of smart knitters from around the world, all of whom are committed to facilitating other knitter's creative processes in the most logical and intuitive manner possible. At Alchemy, we believe that our committment to living life to its fullest - to recognizing and celebrating health, healing, love and light at every opportunity - is captured in each skein of yarn and every design we make. By creating our work with such intent, we trust that this beauty is given over to you when you choose our fiber and designs in support of your creative expression. We invite you to share our passion.

This book focuses on three of Alchemy's yarns - Silken Straw (100% Silk floss), Haiku (40% Silk 60% Mohair) and Silk Purse (100% Silk single), all of which are very attractive and tactilly appealing to work with.
I had seen one pattern (Muse) that I REALLY wanted, and I justified the purchase by assuming that there would be other patterns that I would like to knit up as well, based soley on the pattern I had seen and the yarns they were focusing on.
When I received the book I was fairly disappointed to find that out of 77 pages and 20 patterns, only four patterns(including Muse) even worth my consideration (1 cardigan, 1 tank, 1 scarf & 1 lacy wrap). In all there were 3 scarves, 3 pullovers, 2 tank/camisoles, 4 wraps, 1 purse, 2 ties (1 standard & 1 ascot), 3 cardigans, 1 kercheif, and 1 shrug.
Only 1 tank/camisole and 1 cardigan (Muse) had ANY shaping what so ever, everything else was very unflattering in straight box styles.
This book COULD have been AMAZING, but sadly fell very flat.
I will knit up the pattern for which I purchased the book, and will call it a *relatively* inexpensive lesson...
