Well I say Shame on you Mr Publisher for making us all wait for this excellent story!!
As well as Thanks for finally releasing it!! ;)
But seriously.. did you have to price it so ATROCIOUSLY HIGH??? Give the book a fair chance will you and LOWER THE PRICE so more people can afford to enjoy it !!!!!!
Destination Unknown is a great read. The characters are interesting and likeable, the situation is one I've personally contemplated in the past, wondering what I'd do given the same circumstances; well, at least similar ones, so that also added a little extra pizazz to the story for me.
Well written with a strong plot, Destination Unknown is yet another example of Zelazny's diverse skill and natural talent at bringing a story and all its characters and elements to life. The words and pages flowed so easily that before I knew it the story was over!! A full-length novel, I was left very satisfied with what I'd just read and enjoyed in Destination Unknown, but I'm also hungry for more stories from this excellent author!
5 stars and definitely recommended for a good solid entertaining read!
The main characters of the novel (Brian and Kate) are in the midst of a rocky marriage when the story opens. First let me say I felt Brian's pain every step of the way. The author's vivid descriptions of the turmoil in his life almost made me wish I could help him in some way. Kate on the other hand, the author painted a picture of an individual I wanted to slap...the reason being was she was so willing to point out the problems with her husband (as most people can see fault in others), she refused to see the problems with herself (if that is true to life I don't know what is). This novel is far from being a story about a rock marriage, it is about two people trying to cope with a psychotic man that wants his property returned. Throughout this novel you're pulled into the main character's terrifying journey of what the hell do we do now, and how are we going to get out of this situation. You also follow them through their journey as they go from a bickering couple to joining together and finding the strength they need to save the life of the spouse they love.
I highly recommend this novel to all readers no matter what your usual genre maybe.
Thank you Trent Zelazny for a great read.
Author of the For the Sake of Amelia series
Now allow me another moment or two to summon every adjective and hyperbolic phrase ever used to describe those thrillers that truly thrill.
Nail-biter. Heart-pounding. Page-turner. Paced at breakneck speed. Will leave you breathless.
Now add in the fact that this is Trent Zelazny, which means you have a rip-roaring thriller that also has a lot of heart and very dark center: Real people emotionally fist-fighting their way through real pain; real situations that only get worse before they get better. Or maybe they never get better.
Brian and Kate are not doing well. The loss of their son has left its scars running deep within their relationship. This simple devastation may be more than they can survive.
Until the money shows up. Lots of it. Out of thin air. It’s every struggling person’s dream: A lottery win without ever having bought a ticket.
And that’s as far as I’m going to go with details. Zelazny takes this simple setup and twists it for all it’s worth. Throughout I kept being reminded of two other stellar examples of excellence in the thriller field: Robert B. Parker’s Wilderness, and Brian Garfield’s Death Wish. Destination Unknown is easily as good. The steady build of tension is nearly unbearable. We never doubt for a moment the motivation of the characters to take increasingly desperate measures.
Zelazny does here what he has always done best: He makes us believe. He makes us care.
After reading and thoroughly enjoying Destination Unknown, I've definitely been bitten by the Trent Zelazny bug, and since he appears to have an author's page here on Amazon, I think I'll go search for some extra New Year's reading material! The cover for To Sleep Gently has definitely caught my eye, and I think that's going to be next on my Trent Zelazny TO READ list!
A universally appealing story, I think Destination Unknown is destined for greatness, just like this talented new author, Trent Zelazny.
WOW - I just saw the regular price for this book.. holy cow! Publisher please, LOWER THE PRICE!! It is ATROCIOUSLY HIGH!! :(
