It's amazing, and a real shame, that no one has bought this record, which goes to show the ignorance and disdain for Latin American symphonic music that prevails in American musical circles, though most of these composers have been educated here. Thus, mine is its first review.
Quite an amazing record. A Venezuelan, Ricardo Lorenz writes on a Cuban theme. Piazzola, ok, superb, but he only can write tango. Alfonso E. Tenreiro, Venezuelan. Sergio Cervetti, Uruguayan, writes about a Peruvian Indian martyr. Jose Elizondo, covers Buenos Aires and Brazil. Carlos Alberto Vazquez, a Puerto Rican even other Puerto Ricans do not know about, writes a pieces with a very mysterious title, which sent me on a mad search that turned to be botanical. His "Fiesta Rugeliana" led to my discovery of Oxalis Rugeliana, a plant from the clover family, better known as Coamo, the composer's hometown! So, translated it would be Fiesta in Coamo. All of them are first class and, except for Piazzola, practically invisible in the recording business. I plan to keep trying to bring attention upon a trove of "serious" Latin America which deserves much more attention than it has received until now.
