What is so unusual here is the “inside coaching” look at the work of someone who is undoubtedly one of the best leadership coaches in the world today. Even better, she is a real coach, not a former CEO looking to graft her leadership wisdom and experience onto the shoulders of her Client-acolytes.
We, the readers, are shown the craft of Wasylyshyn’s coaching including the many inventive tools she uses such as SO SMART, questions she uses on her customized 360 Feedback Studies, Total Brain Leadership and her Visual Leadership Metaphor tool.
Additionally, we are given access into how this coach has worked longer term with most of these Clients in becoming their Trusted Advisor, while still not forsaking her coaching role, professional identity and boundaries.
This is definitely one of the best leadership development and coaching books I have ever read. In reading it once, I realize I will want to read it again. It will instantly become an enormous benefit both to leaders looking to learn what state of the art coaching looks like at the 1 % level and to Executive Coaches who want to understand what the secret sauce is to the successful process of coaching senior leaders.
I did find the title somewhat unintentionally ironic. While extremely talented, I can’t say I felt that more than two of these particular CEOs or Senior Executives was ever “destined to lead.” Were/are they good leaders? Absolutely. Has their leadership IQ/EQ been enhanced by their relationships with Karol Wasylyshyn? Absolutely. What becomes even more apparent is that Wasylyshyn was “Destined to Coach.” But don’t take my word for it. Read the book. Decide for yourself.
