4.5 Team Braubrey Stars
I do love me some sport romance and I've been missing that lately glad to rectify that with a good hockey one at that. Plus you know that cover doesn't hurt at all. Add to that a rom com and I'm definitely sold.
I'd like to first say kudos to the on point hockey info, I believe this is S.R. Grey's first sports romance a hockey one at that. Well done research and hockey informants. Plus I never thought of hockey penalties as innuedo. ;)
Brent Oliver star player, golden boy of his team the Las Vegas Wolves ( not the best name but cough way better name than the actual ) is in a slump. Once a force to be reckoned with has lost his mojo so to speak. Happens to the best of athletes but he doesn't know why. Parting hard in the off season has brought on the need for a life coach. In comes Aubrey Shelburn, they had a memorable first impression, now his life coach until things get back in track.
These two butt heads so much they create their own banter, rileing each other up. The chemistry and tension is there especially since they're together 24/7 in close contact. Oh the antics these two have are hilarious, constant one upping the other. Verbal sparring is their foreplay slowly segues into a comfortable friendship of sorts.
Even with them getting along though. That desire for one another prevails. Maybe also along the lines of wanting more. One tiny snag though there's that no fraternization clause. All bets are off when it comes this budding romance that can't be denied. I adored Brent and Aubrey such a fun rapport they had and it never felt like a weighed down relationship even though they are coach and client. Aubrey is sassy and can hack it with the hockey boys. Brent is a softie and romantic at heart even if he wasn't before.
Sports romcoms are great. Each moment in the story never missed a beat. I definitely want to get to know the other guys Benny and Nolan. Such likable characters and appealing in their own ways. like what I see. Destiny on Ice is a light, cute, flirty, good time sports romance with hot hockey players that's enjoyable from start to finish. A delightful read that I couldn't get enough of.
I really enjoy sports romance books so when I saw the blurb for Destiny on Ice I was immediately interested. This book had me laughing and sighing and I loved it. This was my first S.R. Grey book and it won’t be my last.
Destiny on Ice tells the story of Brent Oliver, hockey’s golden boy who finds himself in a bit of a slump. After a disappointing season, he returns to his summer home, drowning his sorrows in booze and puck bunnies. His team is none too happy with his choices and hires a life coach to help him get back on track.
After meeting Brent at a party and not knowing who he was, just that she thought he was hot, Aubrey Shelburne is in for a bit of a shock when she wakes up in his bed the next morning. Not remembering how exactly she got there, she finds herself arguing with him and being thankful she’ll never see him again…until she meets her next client, none other than Brent himself. I loved Aubrey’s dedication to her job-and I liked the glimpse into what I think would be a fun, but grueling, job of a life coach.
The banter between these two was so much fun. The instant attraction was there, but add in an employer/employee angle and Aubrey is caught in the middle. Personally, I love a good “forbidden” romance, and this fit that bill. The chemistry they share is undeniable and when they finally come together I cheered. These two had me laughing and swooning throughout the whole book.
This is a start in a series of the Boys in Winter series for S.R. Grey and I can’t wait for book two. If you like hockey and you like romcoms, this book is definitely for you.
Aubrey is not one to party hard but to focus on her job though there isn't much life she can have anyway because her work acquires her full attention and a lot of time. Before she starts her next assignment Aubrey visits her sister and when a drinking night ends with her drunk in bed with a stranger, she wouldn't have imagined him turning out to be her client. When coaching gorgeous hot, cocky hockey god Brent Oliver while living in the same house and spending a lot of time together, Aubrey and Brent cannot ignore the growing sexual attention between them but the thing is, Aubrey's contract strictly forbids her to date a client. What are they going to do now? Can they keep their hands from each other or are they going to surrender to their feelings? And what consequences will there be for Aubrey?
The story started out with Brent being a careless prick partying hard without a care in the world and of course with lots of puck bunnies. Meanwhile Aubrey tried to explain to her sister that she can't talk about her clients, isn’t allowed to get involved with one or even share any details. This didn't help in getting to like the characters but I loved them from the moment when they met each other. The story had a lot of funny moments and I loved that Aubrey and Brent really liked to rile each other up and you could almost feel the growing sexual tension.
I didn't fully understand why Brent got a life coach when he obviously did whatever he wanted anyway. It seemed to me that Aubrey only had a positive effect on him because they got to like each other. I believe that he wouldn't have changed one bit if no feelings were involved. That's at least what I thought when he was from the start on good behavior though went wild anyway at a point during her watch.
Closer to the end I felt the story a bit rushed to bring the reader the best closure. If you like that kind of ending, good for you. I just thought it was a tad bit too much within a few pages though I can't say that I didn't like to read it because it was still really lovely.
Anyway, I love reading sports romances and I love hockey the most because it's the only sport I actually enjoy watching. This was one of the reasons why I had to read this story and I did not get disappointed even though this was a new author for me and I didn't know what to expect. I will definitely check out more of her work and I am excited for her next book in this series. Bring it on Nolan =)

I loved this forbidden romance. The beginning didn’t start out well for me. It was confusing and I felt like I was in a B rated movie; good enough to watch but a...Read more
