That said, I went into Destiny thinking it was going to be Halo meets PlanetSide 2. It's not. It's more like World of Warcraft meets Diablo meets Call of Duty. Essentially, it's super fast paced combat with a ton of grinding and loot management. I know a lot of people are into that, but it's not really my cup of tea.
Should I take stars off for not better researching the game? Well, I just did. I don't like to heavily research games before I buy, especially from developers I know and love (Naughty Dog, Bungie, Retro Studios, etc.) because it ruins the gameplay and story elements that you normally experience for the first time when popping that disc in.
The shooting mechanics are solid, I'll give it that. The story seems to have so much to tell, but it refuses to present it. Sorry, I'm not going to a website to read virtual playing cards. Give me a in-game codex, terminals, or cinema scenes. Your character is essentially soulless and basically irrelevant to the plot. I didn't care for any of the non-player characters either. Bungie, you've done well on story before, what happened? Oh yeah, Joseph Staten left and you cut out all his hard work. Nice.
The box itself hold the steel case (very nice and detailed one might I add) and art book neatly in itself as they slide in and the box closes from the side with a magnetic latch.
Overall, one of the most simplistiic but visually pleasing packages I've seen in some time.
