Honestly my two problems w/a story to me that coulda and shoulda been soo much better, was a) it suffered from ending way too soon , like a life ending to soon (almost) I feel there was soo much that could have and should have been explored that wasn't , I've only read a few of "the complex" stories Soo I don't know it it's faulty format perimeters or what, but this isn't the 1st story I've read in this series what had way more to say and explore than the time allowed it seemed....
( the other was a menage where the members had to die right after or before sex to complete the bond, and it severely ran out of time especially the 1st few to me " wasted chapters" just telling us how she came to be at the complex and how she hated it, by the time she meets her 1st mate after that the book is 1/2 over and meeting the other mate and bonding was all rushed because of that it seemed) there shouldn't be a forced set of pages the story should be allowed to go as its own pace...
And b) Maddax our " hero", who for may tastes was a little too passive .... sure, sure he almost dies at the end( not trying to spoil I promise ) but by then it was too little too late for me...
Sure he did a lot of good for our girl Emilea but most of it was off camera where we never saw any of it,sighs, and what we did see was a good and passionate man, but he kept secrets and worked behind her back when he should have been planning and plotting w/her not with out....
I want and Emilea needed a man a lot more alpha! A man when she had to go into hiding and she had run to the only person she could trust at that point, we needed a man who wouldn't have taken no for an answer and just left her there ...
A man who wouldn't have left where she was w/out searching the place and dragging out and not leaving til she was willing to listen and hear him out and let her see just honest and open and sincere he was and then let her know what he was doing to protect her,not walking away like a wimp and leaving the woman he supposedly alone to face the unknown with out him...
Especially after she was taken into custody, no after all the mistakes Maddax made w/her, his bravery at the end was too neat and easy and escape for still felt like a weak, weak "hero" to me ...
So Yes!! Yes I do recommend this story , but I can't rate it as high as I'd like between it's weak hero ,who might have had a chance that redeem himself if the story could've just had the chance to be all it should have been ...
Soo great idea and premise to me, but missed it mark, didn't get the chance to all it coulda/shoulda been....
But Thank you❣️ was still wonderful and fun!!
Not to give too much away, but I love the Phoenixidea, it is great!
I love Jane's writing and this does not disappoint!
