The opposition group was motivated from the polar opposite direction, in the words of their visionary fallen founder: “Worldwide justice will only exist once the unjust have been liquidated, once their plans are thwarted. …after we, the just, have sacrificed everything we can to bettering the world” (p.2). An intriguing feature of this story is that it does not have a central character: three main characters each bring unique motivations as they join the opposition, and their stories intertwine.
Since this science fiction fantasy is told from the omniscient narrator perspective, it can easily be read as folklore and interpreted as a simple story. One could also read it as a pop-fiction narrative novel. But the plot development—which does not result in a central character--draws attention to the theme, a theme which grapples with several questions, including whether justice can be achieved by violence, whether war destroys more than just the enemy, and whether utopian ambitions are ultimately self-destructive. How this plays out is for the reader to enjoy… and ponder.
