Famous Treatise on Military Strategy
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2011
Andre Beaufre (1902- 1975) was a high ranking general in the French Army who is remembered for Introduction to Strategy, translated in 1965. In the Preface Liddell-Hart calls it "the most comprehensive and carefully formulated treatise on strategy, brought up to date, that has appeared in this generation-- and in many respects surpasses any previous treatise. It is likely to become a classic...." The author recognized that there is no one strategy to that will fit every situation. He categorizes strategy into 5 types and favours indirect strategy. This is an original work with historical examples to illustrate his theory. Concise and fascinating reading over 138 pages.
