Detour is the book I’ve been waiting for! Whether you’re facing debilitating circumstances, physical challenges, psychological, emotional or spiritual paralysis, or simply lacking relational support, Cam is a sojourner you’ll be grateful to have met. In the aftermath of a life-changing event and with pain as his educator, you’ll appreciate his candor and example of resilience and tenacity. A must-read! -- Lisa Elliott, Author of The Ben Ripple: Choosing to Live through Loss with Purpose

The book is written in an easy-to-read format. Cam's experiences, quotes and stories that encouraged him in his journey, and practical insights and steps related to grief, suffering, forgiveness, waiting, perseverance, set-backs, attitude and more guide the reader through each phase effectively. In addition, for someone in the throes of hardship and trauma, having a book that is written in short, easy-to-read chapters is more easily digested.
I am recommending this excellent read to my mission organization and specifically to those in Membercare who are looking for a helpful resource to use with someone experiencing a detour experience that they either didn't expect, didn't ask for, or didn't realize would impact their life as much as it has done. I have seen first hand the positive impact Detour had on one of my teammates - who really needed a breakthrough. Detour is assisting in a meaningful way in that process.
You are not far into the book when you realize you are applying what the author has learned to your own situation - be it a forgiveness issue, a death, a serious illness, etc. He and and his wife had a terrible crash as they were out for a country ride on their motorcycle. Cam endured trial after trial on his way to recovery after the accident. He definitely will become your role model as you see how he faced multiple set-backs and pain upon pain but through it all . . .he triumphed.
He includes great quotes and stories and Bible verses on how God met him over and over throughout. But whether that is your persuasion or not, you will not be "put off" by the references to God but find yourself encouraged at how the author responded in his trial of life.
Whatever it is you need, you will find yourself in "his" story. A must read in 2017!
