BUT... you should be careful about what other styling products you use, because some styling products with synthetic components will remain in your hair and build up over time. (i.e. "No Poo" cannot remove them from your hair). Specifically, my hair stylist mentioned any product with silicone in it (like Frizz Ease Hair Serum). So, avoid those products if you use "No Poo"! I suspect that some people who had negative experiences with "No Poo" were simply using the wrong styling products. This really is a case of using the whole Deva Curl line, because the whole line of products really do work best together. If you don't want to use the whole line of products, try to stick with a natural line of styling products like Pureology, Abba, or Aveda.
and I didn't feel that NO POO was getting my scalp clean enough...Eventually, my hair started feeling like
I was putting hand lotion on it, instead of shampoo.
Deva Curl is a whole protocol that is enhanced by using their conditioner and styling products for the full effect of getting perfect curls. I had a Deva Curl haircut...but the curls were starting to look weird and frizzed out.
I started hating the haircut but my stylist told me to switch to LOW POO for awhile...and only use NO POO
once a week..
As soon as I switched to LOW POO, I loved my haircut again..I got a cleaner scalp and cleaner hair and more curls and bounce and better shine.
I think the NO POO built up on my scalp and weighed down my hair and made the condtioner and styling gel too sticky..
LOW POO is the perfect rotation shampoo for people who use NO POO, even for a few days in a row to wash out all product build up.
Today is a rainy day. I used LOW POO this morning....No frizz and my curls are beautiful.
Update: I withdraw my one star review and change it to 5 stars plus! As it turns out it was the silicone in the leave-in products I had been using that weighed my hair down. Deva Curl has no harsh detergents that will remove silicone. The remedy is to use a clarifiying shampoo one last time to remove all of the silicone residue and after that use only Deva Curl No Poo and One Condition. Remember - no silicone products while using Deva Curl.
Although I'm a fan of Devacurl Low-Poo (low surfactant shampoo), the No-poo has no surfactants whatsoever. This causes limp, greasy hair at the crown/bangs (where you need volume), and actually caused acne all along my hairline due to the residual. I was going crazy for weeks trying to figure out where it was coming from-- after careful evaluation it turned out to be the no-poo. Again, this would happen if you use any conditioner as a shampoo.
If you have heavy, curly, thick hair that needs taming and gets dried out if you wash it every day, this is a fantastic product--it doesn't overstrip and has a great detangling power that doesn't need much conditioner afterward.
But if you have fine, wavy hair and are acne-prone, forget it.
