Tate and Lucia are such great characters. They are strong and even stronger when they are together. Tate has been through hell and back and has become a really strong man who will have to be stronger when he realizes that Lucia is the one for him . He would go through hell all over again to make sure she is safe . Lucia is just as strong but in a different way . She has to fight and fight some more to even keep her head above water and one step ahead of the evil that is surrounding her every day . She has to do some really nasty evil stuff and she is repulsed by it every day . These two are some tough characters and you will love them and hate them at the same . Van and Liv are back , Van is redeeming himself in this book even more . He does the most valiant thing I have read . Not going to tell you what it is but it will break your heart into a million pieces . There is a new character Cole who was in another series but makes an appearance here . He helps Tate and Van find Lucia and teach them how to survive the hell .
I couldn't but this book down I got sucked into the story from the first page . This author is a must read for me. She really knows how to take you on a journey that will rip out your heart and stomp on it but she will also repair the pieces of your heart . Her characters are strong and weak at the same time . The story has so many twists and turns that will keep you turning pages well into the night. I had a book hangover after reading this book . So if you want a book full of twists and turns and full of angst . Check out DEVESTATE I will say you should read the other books to really understand what is going on in this book . If you like dark twisted and oh so good books you will love this book .
I was tearing up over a certain character the second he hit the page. The emotion that surged into me brought all the previous heartbreak back. I hope we get to see more of him, and maybe, just maybe a happy ending.
But lets focus on Tate. Tate the dominant. Tate the possessive. Tate the protector. Tate the motherfluffing badask alpha. HUGE eye-heart emojis happening over this guy. His devotion was unparalleled. I don't think I've read a single Pam hero that has touched his sense of devotion and loyalty. Lucia. Hard-core, compassionate, selfless Lucia. I really loved her character.
To my surprise someone I didn't expect to play a particularly large roll or have me switching sides was Mr. Van Quiso. I don't like him...um...didn't like him. In my eyes he was never redeemed. Until now. I like Van. It's weird to say. The lengths he took to redeem himself in this book were extraordinary. There was no other way I would have seen him as anything other than the Van we met in Deliver. But he's human to me now. I feel for him, and I LIKE him. It's the craziest thing.
Devastate is my new favorite in the Deliver series. I can't recommend it enough.

There were other things about the story that bothered me. While I didn't hate Lucia I didn't really like her either. She was not too bright and that showed in her actions. Also she disgusted me when she raped the kidnapping victims. While she believed it was the "kinder" thing to do as it prevented them from get physically beat and/or cut but some of the married men would have chosen the non-rape other option if given a chance. They were extremely distressed by what she did to them and begged her to stop. Also Tate's love for Lucia's sister irritated me. It made it seem like Lucia was a the runner up, the 2nd choice and therefore 2nd best. I never really believe that Tate loved Lucia. Rather he seemed to settle for her because she was available whereas her sister was already taken.
It sadden me greatly what the was done to Van and Tate in this story. Unlike how Van acted in 1st book (the only other book in the series that I have read) in this book he was trying to make up for his bad past deeds and actions which included raping slaves. In this book Van is and has been in a loving relationship with Amber. Van stated several times in this book that he would basically rather cut off a limb than cheat on her. He would not go into the smex club with Tate because he didn't even what to be around it. While Van did not cheat on Amber he was forced to rape Tate and visa versa. Both men had a difficult time getting and staying erect and to make it worse Tate was in a lot of physical pain from being injured. The scene made me feel sick and was totally unnecessary to the story. Despite suggesting otherwise the rapes did not heal either of the men in any way.
Cole from the Tangled Lies series was in this book. While I liked and read the 1st two books in the Tangled Lies series I would not read the last one because Cole does not get whats her face Danni (not that she deserved him). This book continued to show what a good guy Cole is and that he deserves to be happy. I would be happy to read another story with Cole (which I believe the next one focuses on him) as long as Danni is no longer in any of the books. I don't want to even hear about her.
