Evie has lost everything that made her life worth living, and she is nothing but a shell of her former self. She goes through the motions of staying alive, but nothing else. That is until Cortney, a work colleague refuses to be shut out and starts banging on Evie's carefully build wall of silence. She slowly starts to wake up and sees the world outside the wall she has built around her heart.
The first her eyes see are Lior, a beautiful man, as well on the outside as on the inside. He is utterly captivated by Evie, and even though he is terrified of scaring her and making her run away from him, he is trying to break even more of her wall.
As the loved ones around Evie slowly make the hole in the wall bigger and bigger, the emotions start flowing again. And instead of living in the land of the death, she starts living for real again. She slowly begins the process of working through her grief with the help from her friends.
Marley Valentine took me on a journey so devastatingly beautiful that she almost made me speechless. Almost, but not quite. Miss Betty always has something to say! She had me in the palm of her hand from the first page, and I went through all the same steps of grief Evie did. The writing was flawless, and the dialog had a naturally flow. Everything about this book hit just the right spot inside of me, and I am in my most happy place right now.
If this is Marley Valentine's debut novel, I can't wait to see what she has in store for us later! I definitely won't miss her next books!
Life has not been fair to Evie. Not only is she grieving the loss of the two most important people in her life but she faced more heart ache in a short amount of time then anyone should have to deal with in a life time. From all the pain, she shuts down. No longer living just barely existing. But with the help of friends, we finally get to see the Evie she was before she became this shell of a person.
Sigh, Loir!! What can I say about him? Oh how about, he is perfect, kind, loving and extremely patient with Evie. But most of all he was the light to the darkness she surrounded herself in and is exactly what she needed but wasn't looking for.
5 Stars well earned!! This book is A MUST READ!!!
Evie has been through a tragic loss, a loss so devastating it has left her withdrawn from society, and has become a shell of a woman. Evie is a damaged woman living day by day in her daily routine, she's just existing. A life that she once had of happiness and love is no longer, now she is filled with so much sadness and darkness. Evie has built walls around her it's her form of protecting herself from everyone and everything, that's until Courtney her co-worker slowly starts to break through those walls one by one and refuses to be shut out. The two form a special friendship, Courtney helps Evie see their is a life for her to live outside of her walls. It was so beautiful to see the two form such a special bond. These two woman couldn't be more opposite of one another, somehow they connected on every level and were always their for each other.
Lior is a charismatic, caring, handsome man. He himself has been dealt with tragedy in his life. He was so full of compassion, love, patience, the epitome of a true gentleman. I simply adored this man. Could he be the man that Evie needs in her life, one to show her how to live again, to smile again, can he bring lightness back into her darkness? Can Evie find love again after all the loss she has endured? You'll have to read it and find out for yourself.
I'll definitely be reading more from this author in the future!
