It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. GOOD: This is indeed the Rev-3 UNO board with the reset button in the upper left corner. It arrived very quickly and seems to work well so far. My C-language test "sketches" (apps) downloaded and ran on the first attempt, using the version 1.0 software download. The components and PCB appear cosmetically to be of reasonably good quality, but ...

BAD: The soldering workmanship is very disappointing; the worst I've ever seen in a production job. SMT devices on the top seem to be mounted OK, but the bottom of the board had numerous defects in the (wave?) soldering. Two of these joints appear to have been manually touched up (residual flux present). Several other joints had large gaps in cold solder joints, but were apparently not bad enough to warrant manual repair. I hope the Italian manufacturer (SMART PROJECTS) works out these process kinks soon.

*** UPDATE July 2012 *** My subsequent purchase of an UNO-R3 board indicates that the soldering issues in early production boards have been solved. (FYI, CanaKit is an approved distributor for Arduino.)

The Arduino concept is terrific, and has enabled a LOT of people to easily create smart projects. The C compiler and IDE work well; I've never had an easier time writing an embedded application, and the price can't be beat. The only thing lacking is the ability to debug code via single-step.

I bought mine through Amazon.com in Dec 2012 (sold by Silverstone LLC) and it was definitely not an authentic Arduino. Some kind of fairly-thorough knock off-- I posted a few pictures comparing it to an actual Arduino-brand UNO R3 board.

And on top of that, it wouldn't work when I plugged it in.

Be careful! You're better off buying through a site like Sparkfun or Adafruit.

Regarding the board:
Seems very well constructed and genuine to me.
I used a spare USB cable and hooked it to a laptop with WindowsXP. Downloaded the software from [...] followed the instructions for WindowsXP and within minutes the 'Blink' sketch was up and running. Had same (smooth) experience on the iMac, in fact with less number of steps (no driver installtion step).
With few LEDs, an 8 Ohm mini-speaker, few resistors and under half an hour I had couple of 'sketches' tried and tested already. My kids are now super-interested in electronics after enjoying the sweeping LEDs and interesting tones and of course the appealing Ardunio R3 board! I let my daughter change the delay intervals in a 'sketch' and she was so glad to see the effect right away.

Bottom line: After running some sample sketches and my own programs - the board seems to be functioning well.

Regarding the Arduino concepts:
1. I absolutely love the simplicity of the development environment (IDE). You can truly jump into the interfacing and control aspects of a microcontroller device without getting bogged down by its internals, assembly instructions and potentially complex program download steps.
2. This is a great learning tool to introduce yourself to the embedded software and the base hardware.
Arduino R3 is probably one of the cheapest development boards out there yet very effective.
Only other board I have had a chance to play with is the Atmel AVR Butterfly (which costs around $20) but the overall development setup is definitely more complex.

So in case you have even a 'tiny bit' (no pun intended) of interest in the vast world of microcontrollers and electronics in general - go ahead and try this board.

This is the best price I could find for an Authentic Arduino R3 on the web.
Plus Free Super Saver Shipping through Amazon makes it an even better deal.

It is a genuine Arduino R3 Made in Italy.
Appears to be a high quality build. Soldering looks perfect.
Screen print on the board identifying I/O connections is excellent and easy to read.
For that matter all of the screen printing looks great.
Latest version. Uses the ATMEGA328P.
Tested and works just as it should!

Comes packaged in a colorful little box. Includes small folded booklet with statements regarding manufacturing, testing, packaging & environmental impact, certificate of origin, warranty information, etc..
Also includes 6 open source and arduino round logo stickers.

What more can be said? It is open source and there are tons of projects that can be found online
With lots of information detailing how to put the projects together.
My opinion is it is one of the best platforms to learn on and great for all skill levels really.
Overall great purchase. Open source is the way to go.

As some others have mentioned, the product that was shipped to me was a counterfeit Arduino Uno R3. I sent Arduino Support pictures of the board that was sent to me, and they confirmed that it was indeed a counterfeit. Giveaways were the printing on the board was a different font than standard Arduino (look at pictures on their website), exposed solder pad on back of board, and a different PTC fuse on the front (green instead of gold). This was a very convincing fake, however, as the leds were the correct color, the screen printing was good, and the soldering was good. It did have "Made in Italy" contrary to the belief that simply having that statement made it genuine.

The counterfeit did power up but I haven't loaded anything into it because I don't want to support knock off suppliers, or give them the satisfaction that I used it.

I will probably return this counterfeit because I would like to support the legitimate Arduino community and approved sellers, not some knock off.
