Product Description
The Devil you know returns in this brand new entry in the over-the-top action series. Prepare to get downright demonic with this signature blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly & original characters the series is known for. Director Hideaki Itsuno and the core team have returned to create the most insane, technically advanced and utterly unmissable action experience of this generation! The threat of demonic power has returned to menace the world once again in Devil May Cry 5. The invasion begins when the seeds of a “demon tree” take root in Red Grave City. As this hellish incursion starts to take over the city, a young demon hunter Nero, arrives with his partner Nico in their “Devil May Cry” motorhome. Finding himself without the use of his right arm, Nero enlists Nico, a self-professed weapons artist, to design a variety of unique mechanical Devil Breaker arms to give him extra powers to take on evil demons such as the blood sucking flying Empusa and giant colossus enemy Goliath.

Devil May Cry 5 - PlayStation 4
Several years after the Order of the Sword incident. An unusual phenomenon suddenly appears in Red Grave City. A gigantic tree pierces through the surface in the middle of town, attacking with roots that drain the poor citizens of their blood.
Story
Young Devil Hunter Nero races into Red Grave aboard the mobile Devil May Cry vehicle with his partner Nico, a self-styled 'artisan of arms' who provides Nero with his new weapons. Nero seeks to recover many things in Red Grave: Lost pride, stolen power and a man left behind.
Stylish Action
Brandishing his beloved Red Queen sword and custom Blue Rose revolver, Nero plunges into Red Grave, routing the demon hordes as he makes for the menacing phenomenon in the city center.
All the while, a power crackles through his right arm. The anti-demon arm known as the Devil Breaker.
'Not bad. Let's see what this can do!'
Stylish action makes a triumphant return in the ramped-up sword-and-gun gameplay the DMC series is known for.
Chain together stylish combos in battle to trigger a Stylish Rank on the right side of the screen, which rises as you continue your artistic onslaught. Shooting for higher Stylish Ranks has all sorts of benefits, even pumping up the battle music at higher ranks Nothing beats the feeling of finishing off a battle at SSS Rank!

Now THIS is how it's done. After Kingdom Hearts 3's disappointing launch, Devil May Cry 5 is a breath of fresh air. Please take note Square Enix, Capcom is showing you how to properly launch a game.
Gameplay Performance:
This goes without saying, but the game looks amazing. The RE engine must work via witchcraft or something, because even on my regular PS4 slim, the game played fairly consistently at 60fps (or at the very least, very close to it), which is pretty essential for an action game that requires lots of quick reactions and timing. Dante and Nero's gameplay is pretty much the same from DMC4, with some extra customization options like Nero's Devil Bringer. My favorite addition is probably Dante's ability to carry up to 4 weapons, and change them out as you like, if you prefer certain weapons over others. V's gameplay was an interesting new addition, and it was noticeably easier to pull off SSS rankings with him. I'll still always prefer the up close and personal style of Dante and Nero, though.
The game was noticeably more forgiving than 3 and 4, at least for me. Gold orbs are extremely easy to come by, and the timing for certain moves (Nero's EX-act comes to mind) feel more lenient than they did in DMC4. This is probably the most beginner-friendly DMC game, if you don't count the reboot. That being said, there is plenty for series veterans to chew on. Most notably, they changed the configuration for some moves such as helm breaker, and added new moves in their place, while mapping the old ones to different inputs. Luckily, all of these options are changeable in the menus.
Music:
There isn't an official OST release so I can't comment on much of the music, but this is what I garnered from just playing the game. Capcom made some pretty bold musical choices, all of which are kind of a departure from previous DMC titles (with the exception of bringing back some boss themes from DMC1 when Dante fights the DMC1 bosses). The music has a lot more classically orchestral pieces in contrast to Tetsuya Shibata's very... grandiose and operatic scores. I enjoyed the new sounds a lot though. And the music changing with the style meter is an ingenious move; I loved the way it built as the style meter went up. Subhuman is still not fun to listen to though, but thankfully, Devil Trigger, Crimson Cloud, and Legacy more than make up for it.
Story (Again, Spoiler Warning):
Unfortunately this is where the majority of my complaints with the game are. The story isn't bad, but in my opinion it is overly simple and not very ambitious. The whole story essentially boils down to Vergil being a jerk again, and I feel like the story writers could have done something way more creative than that.
For example, I think it was a mistake to have Urizen and Vergil (and V, for that matter) be the same person. I just don't see V as Vergil's human form, they look and act nothing alike, so I could never suspend my disbelief and buy into the idea that they were the same, during the story. I think it would have been much more interesting to have V be a creation of a wounded post-DMC1 Mundus (or be Mundus himself), since V commands Mundus' minions; Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare. It could have set up a story where Mundus is trying to manipulate Dante and Nero into usurping Urizen so that he can betray them and take the underworld throne for himself. It would also make sense for how Vergil would return, since he used to be under Mundus' control until Dante freed him in DMC1.
Also, the ending to DMC5 felt like a non-ending to me. Once again, Dante is "trapped" in the underworld (like in DMC2), though this time with Vergil, where they presumably spar until the end of time, seeing as this game was billed as the end of the Sons of Sparda saga. When Vergil was evil-talking about how he didn't care that he had a son, I almost expected a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 ending where Nero would have to kill Vergil once and for all. Also, sadly, no Lucia cameo.
Comparisons to DmC:
This game clearly takes a LOT of inspiration from the DmC reboot game. In fact, I'd argue that the final boss is lifted pretty much wholesale from DmC's final boss. A lot of the visuals, such as the city environment and the character model for Nero seem like callbacks as well. The camera slow-mo zooms and the style rank announcer are also straight out of DmC. Another welcome carry-over from DmC is the ability to replay secret missions from the main menu.
Unfortunately, DmC's amazing platforming and level design don't carry over to this game, which is a shame. The platforming and environments in DMC5 aren't bad, and are certainly a step up from 1-4, but they lack a lot of the personality that 1 and DmC had.
Bloody Palace does not come on the main game, but it has been promised as free DLC in April. I won't change my score here unless it's riddled with bugs.
Also, I've heard people complain about the presence of microtransactions in this game. I'm happy to report that MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE COMPLETELY IGNORABLE. If you simply play the game, the game will provide you with plenty of red orbs; more than enough to get your upgrades without having to pay real money.
If you're bothered by the PS4 censorship, I don't know what to tell you other than it didn't break the game experience for me. Just youtube it or something.
TL;DR Get this game, it is worth playing and replaying.
I didn’t think it would be possible to improve on Nero’s gameplay as much as they have in this game, but they proved me so wrong. The devil breakers are amazing
Dante is back in full form and I’d recommend really exploring all he’s capable of, cause it can be pretty overwhelming for less seasoned Dante players
V was the only one I wasn’t entirely sure about, but his gameplay is amazing and unlike anything this franchise has ever had before
The story is goofy and cliche, but who cares. The ride from beginning to end is still amazing
If you really want a challenge that’s as difficult as it is hilarious, beat the boss of the prologue. Your thumbs will be aching, but you’ll laugh at how cheesy it makes the game’s ending
The soundtrack of the game is amazing with all those classic dmc “techno-goth-trance tunes” and its new “DEVIL TRIGGER” song, is groovin big time!
This mechanics of the game play just like the older titles and the gameplay is very balanced!
Overall, this game puts a smile in my face for its superb RE2 engine, extremely satisfying gameplay and beautiful crafted story! Trully and a successful sequel to the series! Couldnt ask for more.
This game from beginning to end is fun non stop! I couldn’t put the controller down and kept playing for hours on end. Yea this game has micro transactions but they don’t effect the game in the slightest. There for casuals and not for people who are actually good at the game.
This game would’ve been 10/10 for me but there’s no unlockable costumes other than super costumes you unlock from DMD mode and ex colors you get for pre ordering the game. The past games you had several costumes to unlock for beating certain difficulties.
All in all I highly recommend you buy this if you’re looking for a spectacular action game that just leads fun.
