Three Games for the Price of One
The Devil May Cry HD collection brings the first three original Devil May Cry titles, Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition together in one high definition package for the first time.
Devil May Cry
Originally released in 2001, Devil May Cry introduces Dante, a professional demon hunter driven by the single-minded urge for revenge. Convinced to join the struggle against a demon emperor, Dante's skill, style and attitude will lead to a range of experiences, but many things in life, as well as death are not necessarily what they seem. The game features mission-based leveled combat, that introduces the franchises graded style-based combat, as well as powerful "Devil Trigger" functionality, which temporarily transforms Dante with demonic powers.
Devil May Cry 2
Released in 2003, Devil May Cry 2 centers on Dante and his new devilishly agile partner Lucia in their fight to defeat a man hell-bent on achieving supreme power through the raising of a terrifyingly dangerous demon. In addition to the graded combat and demonic powers seen in the earlier release, the game contains new defenses abilities and upgraded existing abilities.
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition is the definitive edition of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. The game is a prequel to the entire series, that explores the shaping of Dante's character leading up to the events of the original game. The game features an updated combat system that allows the player to select from multiple combat styles that can be altered at different points in the game. Along with the original game, this special edition released in 2006 features a number of enhancements, including the opportunity to play as Dante's twin brother, Vergil, and the addition of the Bloody Palace Mode and the Turbo Mode.

The HD transfer works and it looks cleaner and crisper than ever. There are a couple of cutscenes that aren't cleaned up but for the most part everything looks good. Another minor nitpick is the menus are in 4:3 ration which is a little odd.
DMC1- Classic. Very fun and just a great game. Very reminiscent of an action packed resident evil. (dmc1 was a version of re4 at one point.
DMC2- the one no one likes to mention. Nonetheless fun in its own right and has a good ending boss battle.
DMC3- easily one of the best games ever made. It is so good. Everyone needs to play this. It's the definitive action game and just a piece of art. You get the special edition in the collection so you get the best version.
The extras mentioned on the box are all the music tracks from each game and various game artwork/selected fan art. Neat, but it would've been great if you could save the pictures to your hard drive and have a digital album of the music.
Anyway, this HD collection should not be missed. Give it a shot, or a shot shot stab slash. ;)
Just a tip, look into the combo system of 2. I had originally complained that it was vastly limited but I've finally figured it out and there are plenty of moves, they are just executed entirely different than they were in DMC1 and DMC3.
The three games included are a blast to play.
The HD upscale for the game is noticeable and great.
Only down side is that some of the cut scenes did not get an HD rendering, and were left in their original state.
I highly recommend this for new people to the series or old die hard fans. The games are dated but truly enjoyable.
Given what type of graphics we are used to today, you wouldn't think the HD is a big improvement until you try playing the old titles on Playstation 2.
The HD makes a huge difference, the boss battles and graphics are much more visually appealing and really do the series justice. Especially the fights against Phantom.
To me, even though the first time came out 12 years ago, this was a nostalgic replay worth every penny.
Normally I sell my PS3 games after beating them but this one is definitely a keeper.
