I though I knew a lot about early Christianity and the issue of lying but this book brought me new sources about the struggle about lying and morality. The obscure( at least to me) demanded more of me as a reader than I might have wished. But it is a great conversation starter.

Wow, I hate to write a negative review of what is a book that probably offers some meaningful interesting insight. The problem is I just couldn't tell. I was looking forward to this book, since I love history and I like to dabble in biblical interpretation. And if you do as well, you may love this book. For me, though, I found it too hard to follow and too repetitive. The language just seemed like it was trying to be too academic and too ornate. I counted seven commas and at least four different ideas in a single sentence. My feeling all along was that it could have been written in a simpler, more to-the-point style that would have been more accessible. Sorry - if you're looking forward to this book, go for it. But just be aware that it's a difficult read.

False play on words, eventually the Devil loses, but meanwhile, it appears liars win.
