Bestseller Fluke's fabulous 14th foodie mystery (after 2010's Apple Turnover Murder) finds Hannah Swenson, the baking whiz of the Cookie Jar in Lake Eden, Minn., still torn between the two less than perfect men in her life—dentist Norman Rhodes, whose attractive former fiancée and fellow dentist, Bev Thorndike, has just joined Norman's practice, and Mike Kingston, Winnetka County's chief detective, who has a roving eye. When someone shoots visiting Lutheran minister Matthew Walters, who's covering Rev. Bob Knudsen's duties at Holy Redeemer while Bob is on a belated honeymoon cruise, the only witness to the murder is Jacob, a mynah bird, who squawks, "The wages of sin is death." Unlike your typical boyfriend cop, Mike is thrilled to have Hannah tracking down clues. Between eating and baking, Hannah and cronies investigate Matthew's background, especially his relationship to his creepy, paroled convict cousin, Paul. Mouthwatering recipes include butterscotch bonanza bars and pineapple casserole. (Mar.)

Through Hannah's brand of sleuthing, she will need to do some covert work, as well as reply on friends and strangers. And she only has a few days to solve the whole thing--can she pull it off in time?

Funny Story: I had very clear images of this book in my head while I was reading it. I feel like it is almost a weekly series by now.
Final thoughts: this was a solid inclusion into the series, although i felt the mystery was easily solved.
SPOILER ALERT: The ending just made me mad! Why did Norman keep this critical information from her all this time? Sounds more like Mike. I also don't understand why Norman feels he has to marry Bev. It's the 2000's...get a paternity test and sue for joint custody....sounds like a set up for Bev's murder in the next book. Hmmmmm...not sure if I like this or not. If Hannah doesn't lose her cool over this latest development, I'm not sure if I will continue with Joanne Fluke's series!!! But of course I'm waiting impatiently for the next book. I pray it will be worth the wait.
This book was slow. I'm finding the repetitive phrases and the "you know what's going to happen" scenario is getting old. I've enjoyed most of the books, however this one just didn't have any bite to it. If you're a reader of these books, you're going to get it. If you don't usually or haven't read Hannah Swensen Mysteries, I would advise you to stay away from this one!
