Product Description

It is safe to say that any electronic music enthusiast will have come across Berlin artist Sascha Ring at some point. Whether it be via the releases of his first three albums under Apparat, through the music of electronic supergroup Moderat, through his collaborations with other music greats such as Ellen Allien, or at one of his epic live club or festival performances, Sascha's restless presence within the field of electronic music is unavoidable and elementary to the evolution of the genre.

The Devil's Walk is the fourth Apparat album. Having released his earlier records on cult electronics label Shitkatapult, where he worked for a number of years, this album is his first for Mute. And if his last one, 2007's Walls, hinted at a move away from the heat of the dance floor, The Devil's Walk , with its cool, contemplative dream-pop and bruise-tender Sigur Rós texture, makes that explicit. Informed as much by the Cure, Roxy Music and Cocteau Twins as James Blake and Four Tet, Sascha recorded The Devil's Walk in his Berlin studio.

Review

(`Ash/Black Veil' is) a haunting and frenetic cut, it sounds as if Thom Yorke had a lovechild with Four Tet. -- KEXP Blog

Commencing with a gently pulsating hum and concluding with a soothing recollection of rain, Sascha Ring, or rather Apparat, introduces us to the first single off his upcoming The Devil's Walk with no presumption of disarming you. -- Consequence of Sound

Something about Ring's combination of electronic subtleties, soothing vocal melodies, and driving rhythms just speaks to our inner softies. -- XLR8R

It took a few listens to Apparat's last Solo album "Walls" before I "got it." What I got was one of the most emotionally poignant, expertly composed electronic music I'd ever heard. "Walls" is up there on the list with Dark Side of the Moon for all time favorite albums.

It was with high expectations that I listened to "Devil's Walk." I did not expect a repeat, or even a sequel to Walls, but an evolution. Having listened to it about 4 times now, I'm simply mesmerized. This is Apparat's best album to date.

"Black Water" was a track I got on Amazon cloud for free, otherwise I probably would never have heard it, or this fantastic music. Devil's Walk is one of those albums that has so many textures and levels of feeling and thought, it gives me shivers, seriously. It's one that I don't get tired of listening to ... I like electronic music that has feeling, and Apparat definitely puts so much heart into the music. I've listed to Walls a few times and it's growing on me.

The album itself is very good. You can sample the songs on spotify or youtube, I'll let those speak for themselves. Something the product page does not discuss is the excellent packaging. $11.65 is the cheapest price you will find this vinyl anywhere on the internet, period. It comes with a foil embossed cover, 180 gram vinyl, oversized fold out poster, and the CD version is included for free with the record. If you're hesitating... buy this. Completely worth the money.

Had never heard of this guy before but decided to give it a try, and I love this CD. It sounds quite electronic but I'm sure this is mostly accoustic instruments, a mix of male and female vocals on different tracks and overall thoroughly enjoyable. Glad I made the decision to buy this.

What you expect from Apparat, but with some vocals and none of those dance beats. I saw him way back in 2003 and this is what I remember. Moody, glitchy at times and very atmospheric. + the lp version comes with a cd. Why aren't all current lps issued this way?

I can't believe how lucky I am to be listening to all these genius sounds, words, beats and all. 'Goodbye' mesmerized for the whole evening, 'Song Of Los' for the next day, the whole album for days, weeks and months. Fantastic stuff! Be warned, if you loved Walls, with buying this album you may become the happiest people alive;)

Some of the best electronic out there, at the moment. Wonderful integration of vocals into a genre that doesn't see them very often. Not nasty, or noisy -- just remarkable composition and production values.

Almost 4yrs on and this album's still ticking. I'm still mesmerized by this fabulous electronic production. It's dark, thoughtful and uplifting at the same time - a work of art. Some of the Amazon reviews that mention the exquisite packaging of the vinyl, which I believe parallels the thought and emotion that went into the music itself.

Indeed, as a previous poster said, this is up there with Dark Side. And with The K&D Sessions for me too.

Be sure to check out Moderat as well, which is a collaboration between Apparat and Modeselektor. And Modeselektor in itself is great - electronica with a bit of a hip-hop/urban vibe.
