I received chunks of faceted white quartz with no sign of any black rutiles.
I don't know how you can charge so much for pieces of quartz you can find laying about anywhere, there was nothing special or precious about these earrings.
Extremely large and very heavy I don't think I could wear these for long periods of time without my lobes hurting, they actually stretched them down they were so heavy.
Such a shame they looked so gorgeous in the photo.
Now for the second or the "ouch" part. It was a bit of a struggle to put these earrings on. I've had pierced ears for over 3 decades and wear pierced earrings everyday, but I've never had this much trouble putting on a pair of earrings. Even after finally threading the ear wire through the holes in my ears, I continued to feel pain. It was a feeling beyond just being "snug." They were super tight! When I took them off (throb-throb) and compared them to my other earrings, I could instantly tell that the ear wire used was thicker than normal, like maybe 50-75% thicker! Serious OUCH! If I decide to keep these "gems," I will definitely have to replace the ear wires or buy some Advil and risk stretching the holes in my earlobes.
Third, there was a spot of excess glue that had dripped from the formed gold rim onto the quartz, about the size of a grain of quinoa. The glue is pretty strong and couldn't be flaked off with a fingernail, which says a lot about how well the earrings were assembled. However, if my O-C keeps up, I may need to take a blade of some kind to it, which might result in a careless and unflattering scratch. Wouldn't be the first time my O-C got the better of me...
I have to admit though, that these earrings are different in a funky kind of way from any pair I currently own, so for that reason I'm not sure yet what I'll do, i.e. whether keep them and deal with the imperfections or send them back.
