The live DVD was my main motivation for purchasing the Deluxe edition. Having attended one of the stops on Anberlin's acoustic tour, this DVD allows me to relive that performance over and over again. The DVD recreates the intimacy of this specific tour, and would be a welcomed addition to any Anberlin fan's library.
This remix CD gives alternate mixes of every song off of the proper "Vital" release plus two off of "Devotion"--"Unstable" and "Said Too Much". The remixes are almost all longer than their original counterparts and while most are turned more into club oriented tunes they all retain their interest and, most importantly, their vital energy.
The remix CD is worth the price of the package but lucky was the one, quite unlike me, who managed to buy only this release. I still favor "Vital" in its purest form and feel a bit of a fool for essentially buying it three times over but you know what? I'm still happy with it. I'm happy with it all.
As I am a big Anberlin fan, I bought the album, Vital, when it first came out, so I was a little dismayed at first when I learned that I would have to re-buy it when "Devotion: Vital V.2" came out. But it ended up being better than I expected.
Devotion (Deluxe) is much more than a special edition re-release. There are two discs beyond the main album disc, which itself amounts to nearly twice the content of the original Vital; the new content is spectacular. The second disc is a remix album; normally I don't care for remixes, but Anberlin picked the right people to remix their songs. The third is a DVD of a live performance, which I've not yet watched.
All this is topped by the artfully designed case.
To say the least, Devotion exceeded my expectations, and what's more, found its rightful place as one of my favorite Anberlin albums.
I have listened to all of Anberlin's albums extensively and for a long time thought that "Never Take Friendship Personal" was their best album. However, once I listened to "Vital," I changed my mind.
When I heard that "Devotion" was coming out, I wanted it right away. However, I did not expect the new tracks to be nearly as good as the tracks on "Vital". After listening to this album, I discovered that I was wrong. With the possible exception of "No Love to Speak," I loved every song on this album.
