The real gem is the story that weaves through all the books and binds them together. The omnipotent goddess that the Kindred revere and the evil that is always trying to do harm however it can. I particularly liked the characters of Garron and Tess. Both are survivors of abuse and have an immediate understanding that goes beyond the traditional Kindred call to his perfect mate.
Garron and Tess have a lot against them, including themselves at times. The slow seduction that takes place goes both ways, since Garron is probably the more sexually sheltered of the two. When things culminate with Tess's ex, it was pretty extreme and graphic, and I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed it immensely. The author really drew me in and had me on the edge of my seat; it paid off big. A must read.
This book travels to the edges of the galaxy as well as staying on Earth. A new kind of Kindred is introduced and is very intriguing with the background the author provided. I can't wait for the next book.
