Dewitched is a direct continuation of the Snow White myth, but with the most breathless of twists -- this time, the protagonist is Jane Yvel, the Evil Queen herself. After being put on trial and humiliated for her crimes, Jane is propelled into an incredible quest for meaning, love and redemption. And what a journey it is! As she narrates her tale in the first person, Jane proves to be a compelling character -- smart, sardonic and armed with a sympathetic backstory.

I will steer clear of spoiler territory, but let me just say that author E.L. Sarnoff has crafted one heck of an delicious tale here. It's a biting satire that puts a fresh new spin on an age-old villainness. And, as an added plus, Sarnoff also throws in a sprinkling of appearances by classic characters -- everyone from the Huntsman to Pinocchio. When competing personalities collide, the result is funny, melancholic, surprising and provocative -- all at once!

I really enjoyed reading Dewitched, and you will too. I can't recommend this enough -- it's a wonderful read geared that you should pick up if you like their fairy tales to be hip, mature and different.

Dewitched: The Untold Story of the Evil Queen is a fun, funny, yet tender spin on what happened to the evil queen after the poisoned apple. For the first time we get to know the Evil Queen (Jane Yvel) as a person outside of the fairy tale, but still in the fairy tale world and follow her on her journey towards self-discovery. This cross between satire, spoof and poignant quest is definitely a book for the grownup set. The best adjectives I can use to describe this book are delicious and dishy. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. It's the perfect read for the beach, an airplane or anytime you want pure enjoyment.

I bought this book for my wife, and she enjoyed it so much she told me to read it. Now her taste in books and mine are radically different, so I figured I would humor her and read a few pages. Darn if this did not turn out to be one of those books that we both agreed on. It was funny, "wicked", and a little twisted as well.

We had all the characters from every fairytale and children's novel in the last 2000 years, including Capt'n Hook and Cinderella's evil step-sisters. We get an idea of how Jane, the Evil Queen, became that way, and how she could redeem herself.

This was a fun read and I will read the next book in the series.

I loved this book! I was watching Snow White and the Huntsman, and wondering how much grimmer fairytales can get, when I stumbled upon this little gem. This is a chick lit version of the Evil Queen from Snow White, and it's as funny as funny gets! I LOLed at so many places and was delighted at the character arcs. I swear - every character had a character arc that was fulfilling, and there were plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep you surprised.

This is a wonderful book!! Bring on the movie, I say!

I liked the concept and there were many clever, sly references to other fairytale characters woven throughout the story. Overall, though, the writing could have been stronger. I'm torn as to whether I care enough to read the sequel or just let it go...

This book was great insight into the Evil Queen, or Jane, lots of plot twists, & hilarious life commentaries from Jane.
There was no sex, only kissing but a lot of longing & sexual tension.
The humor was almost negated when all the evil things that happened to Jane through the cruelty of her mother created havoc & repercussions in her daily life. This book was fraught with bad mothering memories for Jane.
However, it was fabulous that Jane was able to recognize her's & her mother's faults to be a kind, loving, giving & caring individual who is truly beautiful on the inside & out.

I was looking for something simple with a plot that I would enjoy, and I loved every minute of this book. It isn't complex and minus the debate on "good and evil" it doesn't really make you think too much, but it'll make you happy and it'll make you feel like a kid again. I finished this book basically in two days because I loved Jane's attitude. It was a little informal but so nice to not feel like the "Evil Queen" was some old lady and she was more like a forgotten process. I can't wait to read the sequel.

It is billed as "Wickedly funny, darkly shocking, and deeply moving." Being a fan of Elle Lothlorien books, I was really looking forward to this one. I liked how it began with the retelling of Snow White, but then the story drags on and on with Jane's punishment/recovery. There were characters added from different fairy tale/stories that were all "damaged souls" and in need of repair, but the premise sounds better than the actuality. It seemed like pages and pages of Dr. Phil goes to Faraway. Almost to the point of being preachy. Blame the alcoholic father and the narcissistic mother, you're not responsible for your own actions. You just don't know the power of love. Love makes everything all better. I think these were the actual residents of Lalaland!
There are words added or missing which you have to go back and figure out, and that takes away from the story. I did not find it wickedly funny, darkly shocking, or even shallowly moving. I would hope living in Lalaland would be more interesting than this! Sorry, but in my opinion this book is not worth the effort.
