Seriously, this is heavy duty landscaping fabric. It seems to have three or four layers depending on how you count them. Water passes through it, but it is a tough fabric, and it is dark, so it blocks light. Consider getting some Heavy Duty Landscape Staples to hold this stuff down.
I have noticed over time that the fuzzy side that you place on the ground bonds with the dirt so it sticks well. Other fabric I have used tended to bubble up in spots over time, so this is a nice feature. I would buy this product again. Planning on buying a 3ft roll soon.
If you accidentally cut it with your edger - just use an extra piece and double it over your problem area. That thinner stuff from Walmart tears up too easily and you can patch problem areas. But don't get me wrong - this stuff is tough and will take abuse you dish out.
