Mr. Aberdeen looks like he's a first time author and I like more established authors, but this feels like he's been doing it for years. He have a very complex and intriguing story and as you keep peeling back layers, you find another layer. He's laid the groundwork for a whole lot more. It's not perfect, the character takes a leap in logic, but it was done in favor of moving the story forward. Move, it does. I couldn't put it down. Each chapter was a mini story with cliffhanger endings that just compel you to read more. I polished it off in two nights and wanted the next book right now.
The love triangle he sets up feels fresh. I'm not going to spoil it, but it fun and sexy as hell. I dare you not to fall in love with Pink Panther. Her story is heartbreaking and I love seeing strong female characters. If you're looking for a role model, there you go.
There's a lot of humor in this book. Parts had me laughing out loud. The dialog is clever and fun. His use of description emerses you in this world. This is a place I'd like to visit.
While his story has superheroes, it's not exactly a superhero story. His main character is a regular guy and he gets punished for trying to operate in this world. I can't recommend this story enough.
I'm usually hard core Sci-Fi, but this was a nice change of pace. Light hearted and pretty fast paced. Like I said, it reads like a comic book so it's pretty inventive at points, but I think that is to be expected.
The story itself has enough intrigue to hook you at about the 2nd or 3rd chapter, and isn't really all that predictable. In fact, there are several good whoppers that will catch you off guard.
The ending leaves several things left undone, so there will be more, but it wraps up pretty well.
This book covers mystery, crime, fantasy, comic book, super hero and science fiction, but not too much of any of it.
The writing in this book is fantastic, very witty humor which will have you giggling like a little kid to action which will make you lose all sensation in your hand because you cannot put the book down. The story is very compelling and rich with a lot of different twists and characters, but you never seem to feel lost because of that. It seems as though it sets up for a possible series as well, at least I hope so.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. If you like this book then you would also love Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files if you are looking for something comparative.
This is a detective story as well as an action packed thriller. The characters are well developed, and you are easily drawn into their world. There are enough plot twists to keep you engaged and guessing right to the very end. I read the last page not believing that the book was ending, and I'm chomping at the bit for the next one!
