4 Stars = Classic

Swampy, funky, southern rock from Chicago! You'd never know it! These boys sound like the real deal! Maybe there is a swamp or two in their neck of the neighborhood, but you know what, it don't matter! If you like Raging Slab, Taildragger, & Rufus Huff, you'll like this band!

Absolutely incredible band. I just got turned on to these guys. Money well spent. If you like your rock Southern and your blooze jumpy, this disc is for you. "Dead Horse" is a rawkin' song in the Stones vein. "Back to the Bottle" and "Jammin' Down Southern" have great slide work. And "Black Cat's Path" has great riffs. If you wanna hear how good this guy is with a slide, check out their version of "Mean Old World" on their website.

Having based my purchase of this CD solely on the user reviews posted here, I was VERY disappointed in this CD.

The things I look for in music of this type are:

1: Good songs - Strong melodies, strong lyric hooks, vivid imagery

2: Strong musicianship - proficient instrumentalists, tight ensemble playing

3: Good mix - not only can I hear all the instruments with none (with perhaps a soloist) overshadowing the others, but the mix "pushes" the song along.

In all three areas this CD was well under par. The musicians were average - meaning I can hear players of this caliber any night of the week at bars that feature live music. The band wasn't particularly tight, either. Weak songs - lame hooks over inane melodies. "Mushy" sounding mix - sounded like it was done in someone's bedroom, without the benefit of an acoustically designed space, the proper gear to mix with, and well trained ears to mix with.

On the other hand, I suppose there are some that will enjoy this. I mean, there really is a market for everything, right? How else would "artists" like Jessica Simpson make it so big?

Don't waste your time.
