I love the lists!! They give sample meal plans for the week as well as a shopping list which makes it super easy for those who are busy, aren't we all? They tell you the top 10 ingredients to keep on hand which amazingly correspond with things I use on a regular basis. Big thumbs up on that! The other thing I like is that this isn't just a cookbook. They give tips and hints on how to control diabetes through diet. I love it! So many friends who are diabetic want to rely on medication and eat however they want. This handy guide tells you otherwise. Oh, and the recipes are great. The mini spinach and broccoli quiches are amazing! If you or anyone in your household has diabetes, this is a book you want on your shelf.
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
The first two chapters cover helpful tips for creating efficient and healthy cooking habits as well as understanding and managing the types of diabetes.
The rest of the chapters split up the 125 recipes into sections such as Breakfast Bonanza and Soups & Stews including cook times and substitution tips. Some of my favorite sections are the Comfort Classics that include alternatives to pasta and nachos which are weaknesses of mine and Sides & Staples which provide recipes for Barbecue, Teriyaki and Ketchup sauces.
It is obvious that care has been taken in explaining the ingredients involved in creating these meals and I would recommend this book as a guide to those who themselves or cook for someone diagnosed with diabetes.

It includes 10 ways to divide the labor of cooking so that one person is not doing it all. Diabetes does not affect just the one person…it affects the entire family. Those without diabetes need to encourage and support, often carrying more of the load then the one who is diabetic. This book helps with planning out a meal plan for a week at a time, including preparing the shopping list and the ten main ingredients you should always keep on hand.
Ms. Koslo explains the difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes, breaks down the importance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to help in managing the meals and proper intake. She also provides healthy cooking techniques and ten tips for diabetic success.
While I know little about diabetes, I am learning every day and this book was a real eye opener for me. If you or a loved one has diabetes, take it seriously and read this book. It just may help save your life, or at least your eyesight. We all need to eat healthier and the time to start is now.
I am thankful for the opportunity to receive this book for free for reviewing and testing purposes. The meals are simple to follow and delicious so I definitely recommend this book.
