About the Author
Emily C King began her journey to publication when she attended an Oregon Christian Writers’ one-day workshop, which inspired her to continue writing. Her work first appeared in magazines and compilations, including Chicken Soup for the Gardener’s Soul, Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas, Brio and Clubhouse, Jr.
Emily loved reading children’s books and discovered she also loved writing children’s books, including the Mrs. Twiggenbotham Adventures, then Clopper, The Christmas Donkey, which rose to #7 on Christian Booksellers Association’s Kids’ Christmas List after its release in 2003. Clopper and the Night Travelers, also beautifully illustrated by Ed Olson, has received five-star reviews . The third book in the series, Clopper and the Lost Boy is Clopper’s account of when Jesus stayed behind at the Temple, as his parents left Jerusalem. The original Clopper has been printed in Spanish and was also published as a children’s board book in 2013 by Kregel Publications. Emily then self-published Snow Baby: A Christmas Novella, and most recently, The Diamond Heart Mystery, which was published less than a month before her death.
Writing books for kids afforded Emily the pleasure of talking to and meeting people of all ages from across the country in radio interviews, guest appearances and book-signings. Besides writing, she enjoyed creating digital photo books, flower gardening, traveling and reading good books—for adults and children.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Emily moved to Portland, Oregon in 1968, when she married Dave. She and Dave served as Kids Klub leaders at their church for over twenty-five years. Losing her battle with cancer, Emily went home to be with Jesus on July 5, 2017. Emily is survived by her husband, two grown children and six grandchildren.
