Editorial Reviews

Recorded at the MEN Arena in Manchester on December 16th 2011, this stunning Duran Duran live show is the perfect combination of great music, amazing visuals and iconic style which has been the band s trademark throughout their career. Following the release of their acclaimed All You Need Is Now album, this concert combines new songs from that release with their classic hits. Whether in the studio or the live arena, Duran Duran are masters of their craft and this latest concert bursts with energy and oozes class in the way that only they can. /
Line-up: Simon Le Bon (vocals), John Taylor (bass), Roger Taylor (drums), Nick Rhodes (keyboards)
With: Dom Brown (guitars), Anna Ross (backing vocals), Simon Willescroft (saxophone) and Dawne Adams (percussion)

I was really impressed with this tough performance. Simon LeBon's voice has really developed into a boombastic force and the players are tighter than ever. Compares favorably to their 1984 live "epic" ARENA, more imminent than nostalgic. Mark Ronson lit a fire under my childhood heroes' asses while earning his place in rock history. RESPECT

It captures the live Duran Duran experience nicely, but the bass is not there. In the early albums, JT's bass is a lead instrument. The reviews that say the sound is awesome I don't understand. Duran Duran without bass is not Duran
Duran. Sorry just my opinion. Everything else sounds great but on some songs all you really hear is Nick, even Dom's guitar is muted.

Someone mentioned the sound in their review, but I have to say that I don't think I've ever heard a live album that sounded this good. Nick on the keyboards comes through like a champ, the guitars and percussion are clear and crisp, and the voice of Simon Le Bon is quite amazing live, considering other performers can't seem to match their own studio quality sound. Simon's still got it after 30 years! There are no big risks here in either the play set or the arrangements, and after listening to four differnt live albums of theirs, I kind of wish I would have gotten a few more of their newer songs live. I'd love to hear "Mediterranea" or "Too Bad You're So Beautiful", but they did give me "Before the Rain", which I really love. Of course they couldn't do a live show without "Hungry like the Wolf", but I'd have preferred perhaps a few more less heard songs, but I'm really glad they included "Rio". Back to this sound issue the one reviewer seemed to berate the album for, just listen to the keyboards on "The Reflex" and "All you need is now" and the percussion on almost all the songs, but particularly "Wild Boys", and you won't be disappointed. The harmony and backing vocals are well done, and I am very pleased with this purchase overall. Most live albums from other bands have had a few listens but end up on my shelf because their studio counterparts are just better (including some of DD's own live albums). This one will likely last quite a bit longer. Keep those crystal clear notes flowing Simon!

As a KISS fan and a die hard headbanger from the 80s, I have a few bands that I listen to that do not fit my "stereotype". THIS is one of them. Receiving this as a gift was intended as a joke. Joke is on the giver.

As for the songs, I had no problems with the quality of the recording, I felt the channels were separated well. I was able to pick out every part. Simon has managed to keep his voice in amazing condition and the band swept through their hits with seamless precision. I felt their CHOICE of songs was the biggest suspect here. I really did not need "View to a Kill" or "Notorious". "Save a Prayer" is a sinful omission. However, that is simply one fan's preference.

If you r a fan of Duran duran do not hesitate.
This CD is well worth grabbing.

I would have loved some diversity on some of the track selection.
That said, what they played they played perfectly.

Standouts are: The man who stole the leopard, Girl Panic, Sunrise and the Reflex.

Incredible energy at this concert. It just sounds so good!

I have collected Duran Duran since their very first UK 7" / 12" single and to this day collect up their music. I saw this coming out and thought it had a good track listing (The DVD is more complete though). I was impressed,it is excellent, I have some of this tour on bootlegs but the sound is far better on this then any of those recordings. I must note that one guy reviewing here said the sound was bad! You best check your equipment buddy because it sounds great from speakers or headphones. I am not a great fan of "Live" albums but this one is better then most. If you have a chance to see this band, check them out. It is worth the experience. As for this album, get it, good listening album. One word though, the DVD version is even better.
Drop by my website sometime for a visit @ "JudeMac Forever".

I love this concert. My only complaint is that the DVD features Safe and the CD does not. Why? Other than that the sound is good and of course, its Duran Duran, so it is all good. It would be nice to have a complete live album. There is always something missing. I truly would like to have the complete audio recording from intro to encore. Definite purchase of any self-respecting Duran Duran fan.

In December of last year - following the incredibly successful All You Need is Now UK arena tour, Duran Duran filmed and recorded their show at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England. The result is Duran Duran Live in Concert 2011 - A Diamond in the Mind and will definitely be an audio - as well as visual - delight to Duran Duran fans the world over.

Directed and filmed in high definition by the band's long-time collaborator, Gavin Elder, Diamond will be the band's first live release in close to ten years. The line-up includes Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes. While Andy Taylor isn't part of the band's arsenal of musical weaponry, Dom Brown does a phenomenal job with his more than capable talents on the guitar.

Fans will definitely want to pick up both the DVD/Blu-ray as well as the CD because each offers something that the other doesn't. Boomerocity has gone to the trouble of detailing those differences for you. They are:

The CD has Come Undone that is not included on the DVD.

Not included on the CD but is on the DVD are: Return to Now, Safe in the Heat of the Moment, The Man Who Stole a Leopard, Careless Memories, A Diamond in the Mind.

The randomly selected Boomerocity favorites from this collection are:

Before the Rain is a tune from the band's latest album, All You Need Is Now, that came out in the spring of last year to much critical acclaim. Different from a Duran Duran point of view, it's quite a moving song as well as quite the crowd pleaser.

The uber cool, A View to a Kill, reminds me of watching the band perform this tune (if my memory serves me correctly) during a Grammy ceremony.
