Product Description

The Cobra 20 is the perfect bike for the next step in a boy's riding progression. The heavy duty steel frame can take some scuffs and dings while the 40mm suspension fork makes the bumps a little softer. The 6 speed twist shifter is a great way to introduce a boy to shifting without causing too much confusion and the linear pull brakes are a great way get him used to braking with his hands instead of feet. When your little man is ready for his next bike try a Cobra 20.

I love the bike, it was easy to assemble and easy to ride and mount, and it didn't come beaten up (like most people say as a highlighted warning on amazon) but the only drawback is that the gears are awfully hard to change, I got a handful of blisters on the first two days of riding the bike. But if you are able to change the gears with ease you should be having a wonderful time as well.

This is a good bike for a rider to make the next step up. My son went from the standard first bike with pedal brakes to this one. It took him about 10 minutes to adjust to the hand brakes and the bigger size. The package showed up with the cardboard slightly torn, but the bike was ok. If you can't assemble this, how will you be ready for the zombie apocalypse?

This is a good beginner bike for a young boy.

Although sturdy, the frame is relatively heavy. I think this bike is heavier than my adult frame bike.

The OEM grip shifter malfunctioned early. Upgraded to SRAM for less issues.

Nice looking, great bike, my son, who's 8 loves it and wants to ride all the time. The only drawback is, he has a hard time switching gears. Very happy with it!

There are many folks on here noting that this bike is heavy. It's supposed to be. The description clearly states "Heavy Duty Steel Frame". If you want a lighter bike look for an aluminum frame like the one on the Diamondback Octane.

One way to know is you can check the shipping weight. The shipping weight on the Diamondback Cobra 20 is 36.2 pounds. The shipping weight on the Diamondback Octane 20 is 25 pounds. That's an 11 pound difference in weight and to a kid that will be huge!

my son received this bike for his birthday, we thought it was a great 20 inch bike, a little heavy but the price point was good & the bike looked cool. but the shifter is total crap - it does not work. it caused a lot of tears since the one request he had was that the bike had gears. unfortunately, two hours after receiving the bike we are putting it in the car & returning it to the store. steve the bike guy has a recall on this shifter and says to upgrade it to the revo by shimano - i am sure this is easy to do, but i am so annoyed that diamondback is selling a bike with a faulty shifter to kids that it is going back.

Bought this bike for my seven year old son who has been riding without training wheels since he was 4. I was a little worried about the lack of pedal brakes, but he picked up using the hand brakes right away. However it looks like he has to work fairly hard to squeeze them. As others have mentioned the shifter is hard for little hands to turn- unfortunately harder to shift down to a lower gear than it is to get to the higher gears. There does not seem to be a way to loosen the shift mechanism to make it easier to rotate either. This means my son stays in 3rd or 4th most of the time. He still loves the bike though and it looks like it should hold up well and last for quite a while.

This bike is sold in very good sports stores that sell - mainly - good bikes. My son is an immature 9 yr old. This is his first bicycle. He had no trouble learning to ride in about 2hrs. Don't settle for a lesser bike. This is a great value. Many bikes are put together w/metric tools now... So be careful. Many bikes are "stripped" by conventional allen wrenches, etc. I recommend purchasing from a sports or bike store that has been assembled by someone who can fine tune all adjustments... or having it assembled by a certified technician at a sports/bike store. It rolls effortlessly on the road or in your yard!!! MY SON LOVES IT!!!!
