The seat is NOT comfortable
July 15, 2018
I am having knee surgery soon and decided to get this bike to help with rehabbing my knee. Based on reviews from multiple sites, I decided to purchase this model. The bike was delivered and installed on 07/14/18. Before the installer left, I hopped on to make sure everything was working. I noticed that the handle bar grips on the seat were loose and wobbled, so I asked the installer to tighten them before he left. After tightening, the wobble went away. So far, so good I thought and I decided I'd try a 30 min. ride to get a better feel for the bike. Initially, the seat didn't feel bad; however, I noticed that my rear end started hurting after pedaling for 7 minutes. I shifted in the seat to see if that would relieve the pressure and pain. It didn't and by the 10 minute mark, my left leg started going numb. I stopped pedaling and grabbed a pillow to see if sitting on it would help. It didn't.
The seat is wide, but not very long (deep in length). It is contoured and padded although it could use more padding. If you look down at the seat, it looks like a bicycle seat was stretched out on the sides. Because of its width, you would think this would not be a problem and would be wide enough to support riders of all sizes. This does not appear to be the case because for me, the seat is cutting off circulation to my legs. This gives me the impression that if you are a rider with a larger posterior, you may have issues with the seat cutting into your backside from either the top of the seat or back of the seat.
Before I throw in the towel, I am looking for a seat cushion to try out. My hope is a larger cushion (length-wise) will keep the bike's seat from cutting off circulation to my legs. But to be honest, I wish Diamondback Fitness sold this bike with a longer seat (kind of like the Schwinn/Nautilus models have). If the cushion doesn't work, the bike goes back.
UPDATE(07/16/18): I am currently looking for a seat cushion to work with this bike. The first thing I realized is the seat dimensions aren't anywhere to be found. I read the manual twice, went to Diamondback Fitness' website and rechecked all the websites I did research on. No one had the exact dimensions listed; however, one site mentioned that the seat was 12" wide. That information is incorrect. I measured the seat and found it to be 16" wide x 9.5" long going from seam to seam. If pressed, I'd round up and say the seat is 16" wide x 10" long. A second thing I have learned is that if you are purchasing a seat cushion, it was suggested that it should be for a contoured seat. Based on this recommendation, that is what I am looking for. Well the search continues. Also, I hope this information helps others.
