Product Description

When a little boy gets too big for a 20" wheeled bike the Cobra 24 is the way to go. The heavy duty steel frame will hold up to the trials of childhood while the 40mm suspension fork will make heading down the dirt paths much more fun. Add in both front and rear twist shifters and he will have lots of gears to experiment with. The linear pull front and rear brakes will make stopping easy. Put your little one on a Cobra 24 and watch in amazement as he grows - both on and off the bike.

Like the other two reviewers, mine, too, came with a broken rear shifter housing - the one on the right handlebar. My son is pretty disappointed because it's his birthday and he wants to ride his new bike. Other than that, it's OK. Directions are frustratingly vague on adjustment of the brakes and gears - just like on every bike I've ever bought. I believe I will just take it in to a bike shop and have them do the adjustments, and probably go ahead and replace both shifters.

First off. No Kickstand! I mean that is sad.

Second it is not that "Great" quality that I have seen in the reviews of this bike. All the part are the same as the bikes that are sold at Walmart. The shifter, gears, and brakes are the same as on the Next and Mongoose. Also the peddles had plastic hanging off of them from the molding presses. Not that big of deal can be cleaned up with a utility knife.

Third the brake pads do not hit the rim in the proper spot and if you adjust them up they hit the tire and down and they only hit the outside edge.

So if you are looking at this as I was thinking it is better than the rest. Look again it is the same made in China as the Walmart or Target bikes.

Well, delivery was ahead of schedule and it was easy to assemble. It also looks sharp. But both the left and right twist shifters are defective. Not visibly broken, but instead, will not shift through all gears. They are incredibly tight. So tight I cannot make them work. The front shifter can only shift between 2 of the 3 gears and the rear can only get through 2 or 3 of the 7 gears.

Disappointed.

I actually took the bike to our local bike shop. He said this is common on twist shifters, which he also said are difficult for kids to shift. Yet every darn kids bike I looked at seems to have these twist shifters. I guess that's what happens when they put the "bottom of the line" shifters and derailleurs on bikes under $400.

My next bike purchase is back to the bike shop where I bought my Giant bicycle. At least they know me by name.

This bike is heavy, but is the best I found in the $200 price range. Very easy to put together. Came with all necessary tools. My son, 10, really likes it. It has a low stand over height for a 24". It came with a broke shifter in the box, but one call to Diamondback and new set is on the way. Ordered a kickstand and speedo to install. Will replace Sunrace shifters with Shimano trigger style ($32 EF-51). It looks great.

This is a very nice bike except for the Sunrace twist grip shifters, which are way too difficult for a 10 or 11 year old to operate. This is obviously a design defect, because the 2014 model Cobra 24 uses upgraded Shimano shifters and derailleurs. We bought the Cobra 24 for my son's 11th birthday and, after complaining to Diamondback over the impossible-to-shift gears, they sent replacement shifters made by SRAM. After 2 hours installing them, they are no better than the original ones. If you take the time to google the Cobra 24, you will find that Diamondback's customers had been complaining about the shifters on this model since 2010, and they continued to build and ship product long after they knew about the problem. It's a shame, because the rest of the bike is very well made. We had previously bought a Diamondback Octane 20 for my 8 year old son and were very pleased with it.

Bike is fantastic...gears don't shift. Diamondback is sending new gears because there is a known problem with the hand shifters. It would have great if they would have fixed this before shipping it!
