1) Start with a small section, apply styling product from root to tip and make sure that the section is properly detangled. 2) Wrap the ends first and rotate your hair around the same area 1-2 times. 3) Space the strands close together for a tight curl & further apart for a looser curl. Fold the ends to secure Flexirod. 4) Always allow your hair to dry completely before taking down. Air dry or use a dryer. 5) To take down, unravel in the opposite direction. Twirl the ends of curl around your finger to eliminate frizz. 6) Use a hair pick to lift and fluff your roots.

So, this is what I do. Instead of sleeping in them I use them while getting ready in the morning. Right after showering and blow drying my hair I put the rods in. After blow drying, my hair is warm and possibly still has a little moisture left. I put the rods in quickly, and as my hair cools it sets. I leave them in for at least 30 minutes, up to an hour, and go about my morning routine while my hair sets. As soon as I remove the rods I run my fingers through my hair if necessary, give it a light spritz of hair spray, and I'm good to go for the day. When I remove the rods my hair looks extremely curly, but it calms down after half an hour. It will last me most of the day, relaxing as the day goes, but still looks good. With this technique I get a full day of beautiful hair. But after sleeping, the next day my curls are gone. Maybe it's because of my hair type. Or maybe it's because the rods were in a short time. I don't know.
Personally I like loose waves, not ringlets, so I use the two larger sized rods. I wrap my hair around the rod the same way you would wrap it around a hot curling wand. If you don't know what I mean watch a youtube video on curling wands. It's a different way of wrapping the hair and gives a different result. It turns out like a wave instead of a ringlet. After wrapping my hair around the rod, I secure the end of my hair with a small hair tie, then bend the rod to hold it all in place. This insures it will not fall out. If I don't use the hair ties the rods end up sliding right out.
These rods give me curl all the way up to my scalp, unlike my curing iron. I get so much more body when I use these rods. No heat damage is important to me as well. I love using these rods instead of hot curlers...as long as I don't mind looking like a silly fool for an hour, lol!
I have long thin hair that is severely damaged from color processing. Remember, you will experience varying results depending on your hair type, technique used, and size of rods.
I left the largest rollers, the purple and grey ones, in for 2 hours to see how the curls would turn out. The results were great! The rollers are the perfect size and gave me the same look as my expensive digital perm. I've been getting digital perms for the last year to the tune of $200 every 3-4 months, so these rollers, at $12 a pack, are a steal.
I only needed 7 total for my whole head even though I have a lot of hair. Pictures attached.
I liked this product in particular because unlike many curlers, it did not hurt my head.. typically, I find it difficult to sleep in curlers because they can strain my head and feel weird on the pillow. However, these curlers are not super heavy. They did not weigh down my head and I was able to lay down and lounge around my house, like normal. This was my first time using curlers like these.. with more practice, I bet I could get even more bounce in a short period of time. I experimented with all different size curlers to show how different curlers take in my hair.
The only thing I did not like about this product was that the product description advertises 42 curlers, with 6 of each. If you look in the photo below, you will see 41 curlers (7 green, 6 yellow, 6 red, 5 blue, 5 orange, 5 gray, and 7 purple). While this is on a huge deal because I do not like to use all of the same sized curlers, I think it is important for honest product descriptions. If curlers are provided at random in size, then that specification should be made clear.
PROS: More comfortable than other curlers on the market, great alternative to heated curlers, comes in fun colors, produce good volume in curls
CONS: Did not receive the product as labeled
I have only used this product once, but so far, I like it and will continue using them. I am interested in seeing how these curlers will stand the test of time (if I keep bending them, will they eventually give out?). I will be happy to make edits on this post in the future. Please feel free to follow me on Amazon to keep track of how I review other hair products and the potential of re-reviewing this product after I have used it a few more times :)
