About the Author

Elizabeth Verdick is the author of more than 30 highly acclaimed books for children and teenagers, including books in the Toddler Tools™ board book series, the Best Behavior™ series for young children, and the Laugh & Learn™ series for preteens. Her most recent titles include Pacifiers Are Not Forever and See You Later, Procrastinator! (with Pamela Espeland). Elizabeth lives with her husband, daughter, son, and five pets near St. Paul, Minnesota. Marieka Heinlen received her BFA at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and also studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. This author is magical. I have a very strong willed 3 year old who was resistant to using the potty. This particular book worked for her and changed her attitude about potty training completely. She was afraid of letting go of diapers and now she is happy to wear her big kid underwear and use the potty because of this book. She is so proud. We also have another book in the series called Pacifiers are not Forever and that worked wonders (when she was 2) too!!
Thank you for writing these books...I unfortunately need some others in the series (!!)

We have "Hands are not for Hitting" so I picked this up when potty training was about to start. My 2 year old daughter seems to enjoy the characters and understand the concept. The one thing that confuses her is the "boys can also pee standing up" part, which is understandable. Honestly, I didn't get why it was so important to have gender specific potty training books when books like "Potty" by Leslie Patricelli (and adorable book, BTW) don't address it at all and they seem useful. But now that we're in the throes of potty training, I can understand when details can be helpful as the child is learning.

I try to skip the "boys can also pee standing up" part to try to prevent her from getting the idea to try to pee standing up. But it doesn't always work. The rest of it is great, and I like that they specifically include washing your hands afterward. I not one for separating by gender, but I get it now why, in this case, it might be helpful. It would be fine for boys since they can do both, or a household with boys and girls to show the differences. But in our case, it only confuses her.

My 18 month old loves this book and constantly brings it for me to read for him. We haven't started potty training yet but I've bought a few potty training books for him to read just so he gets the idea in his head before introducing him to it. So far this is his favorite. I love this whole series of books, we have hands are not for hitting, teeth are not for biting, they have all helped a lot! Would definilty reccomend!

Good book for potty training if your child is older (2+) other wise it’s too long and boring. Also it doesn’t rhyme or flow well, it’s awkward to read aloud. I don’t like the artwork either.

So we bought it and at first when your reading it and it talks about going potty and pooping its kinda weird, but it actually helps them learn and are 2 year old loves it and knows it word for word basically.

My son loves this book...he took to it right away like all of the books we have in this series. He has me read them to him over and over, even now that he is potty trained. During the potty training though it was great for helping him relate the concepts to himself. He would point to the book and say me and then show me 'his potty' or where he washes his hands! I love all the books in this series, my son responds to them very well!

Very good book.

For UK readers, just substitute the word nappy for diaper. We've had a number of potty training books mostly aimed at toddlers. This book shows both potty and toilet and children of varying ages both toddler and slightly older so would be good for the stubbon older child (like mine). It even depicts a urinal for boys, something I've not seen in other books! Simple straightforward text.

Also used a netmums tip about getting them to blow up a balloon while sitting on the toilet. Uses the same muscles apparently.
Thanks AMAZON, a new toilet seat (cars), a few books on the subject of poo, a balloon, and the promise of a surprise (precious petzzz) if he goes has worked wonders where no amount of stickers, stars, bribes, and pleading have worked before.
RELIEF!!!
