Where Does DE Come From?

Diatomaceous earth is made up of tiny fossilized diatoms (plankton) that have accumulated over millennia in fresh water lakes. These pure deposits are mined and ground into a fine powder that is naturally high in silica and other minerals. It is this chalky white powder that we call diatomaceous earth.

What is Diatomaceous Earth Used For?

Pure food grade diatomaceous earth can be used for a large number of different purposes. Here's a small selection of uses:

A natural health supplement. Being high in silica, DE supports the growth of healthy hair, skin, nails and joints
A stain remover. DE can absorb more than twice it's weight in liquid. It is effective at lifting stains on carpet and furniture as well as grease and oil spills on concrete floors
A cleaning booster and natural exfoliant. DE has a very porous structure, allowing it to add a gentle scrub to your cleaners or even skincare products
A natural deodorizer. DE can be applied directly to your pets coat to limit odors. It also works well in the bottom of your trash can to keep unwanted smells at bay

I originally started taking D.E. as a parasite cleanse. I've been taking it since October 2016 & decided to just stay on it since it had other wonderful health benefits. I've also been plagued with UTI infections much of my adult life. They would always happen if I drank too much coffee, so I stopped drinking anything but water & organic green tea. The UTIs improved, but I'd still get them, just not as frequently. Let me just say that since I've been on D.E., I've not had a single UTI & I'm able to drink coffee again! I drink about 3-4 cups of coffee a day typically, with no issues. I've also noticed less aches & pains in my joints & my skin has improved as well. Not sure why some people have experienced G.I. distress, but after some research, my understanding is D.E. is also great at removing toxins from your body. If you have a lot of toxins & you start taking too much D.E. too quickly, you could experience moderate to severe G.I. symptoms. Also, if you have parasites, (you may not know it, but most of us have them), the die off of the parasites can also cause you to feel sick. It's important to only start with 1 tsp a day for a few days to see how your body reacts. If you're good, then increase to 1 tsp twice a day. Gradually increase the amount, adjusting as you go depending on if you develop any undesirable symptoms. It's very important to drink PLENTY of water throughout the day while you're taking D.E. If you don't drink enough water, you will experience dry mouth, dry eyes & constipation. For me personally, 3 scoops twice a day, (equal to 1 Tablespoon twice daily), was a little too much for me. Only 2 scoops, (2 tsp), twice daily was the perfect amount...It did it's job, got rid of my parasites & didn't make me dehydrated or cause any other adverse symptoms. I usually put mine in grapefruit juice & there's much less chalky taste verses just putting it in water. I can't wait to see what my cholesterol numbers are the next time I go to the doctor as I've read it helps lower cholesterol & triglycerides and even blood pressure. So far, I'm thrilled with the results!

How Do I Know I Need to Detox?

How Do I Detox with DE?

Detoxing with DE is easy. Simply follow these steps:

Step 1:
Take about one teaspoon of food grade diatomaceous earth with water once a day. Take it on an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after eating. DE is nearly tasteless, but if you don't like its mildly gritty texture, try taking it in juice, yogurt, or a smoothie.

Step 2:
Drink an additional cup of water after each dose of DE.

Step 3:
Over the next few weeks, slowly raise your DE dosage from one teaspoon to two teaspoons, taking one in the morning and one at night. We recommend taking up to a tablespoon per day.

Step 4:
Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout each day to keep your system hydrated.

Step 5:
In her book, All the Green Things You Can Do with Diatomaceous Earth, Tui Rose suggests taking DE ten days on and ten days off for ninety days, though many people have found different strategies that work for them. Some take it daily for a few weeks, others for years at a time. Experiment and see what works for you.

How Can I Boost My Detoxing Power?
While DE alone is a powerful cleanser, there are things you can add to your detox to increase your body's ability to clean itself out.

Cut back on greasy foods, refined carbs, and refined sugars. These foods add the kind of junk to your system that you are trying to clean out with your detox. Reducing these foods in your diet will make your detox more effective and will help the benefits of your detox last longer.
Get some exercise. Along with promoting overall health, working out helps your body eliminate toxins through sweat. Even going for regular walks can have great benefits.
Breathe deeply. Good breathing habits provide increased oxygen to the bloodstream while helping to expel toxins. Mindfulness meditation is a great way to practice good breathing.
How Do I Know My Detox Is Working?

Initially, you may feel some side effects, such as headaches and flu-like symptoms. This is caused by the toxins leaving your body and is not cause for alarm. If these symptoms persist, however, lower your DE intake. This will slow the release of toxins and reduce the side effects.

As you continue your detox over the next few weeks, whatever symptoms you have–the ones that prompted you to detox in the first place–should lesson or disappear altogether. Secondly, you should feel more energy and have better general health. After detoxing, many people feel like they have a new lease on life.

A Cautionary Note
Food grade diatomaceous earth is nontoxic and generally considered safe for consumption, but make sure you listen to your body. As mentioned above, side effects generally mean the detox is working–nothing to worry about. If your side effects persist, reduce your DE dosage to something your body is better able to manage.

If after a few weeks the detoxing doesn't lesson your symptoms, it may mean that your condition is serious enough that you should consider going to see your doctor.

Also bear in mind that while detoxing with DE can promote good health and reduce negative symptoms, it has not been proven to cure any diseases. Continue to consult with your doctor regarding any existing health conditions and follow his or her recommendations.

DE also is known to kill bedbugs as well by dehydrating them.

This bag has lasted me a while now. I have had it for about 8 months now and even given some away and still haven't has to replace it. I took it every day for a couple of weeks and now I take it about 3 days a week. I notice a great improvement in the strength of my nails when I use it and I am sure my bones benefit as well. I usually take it with protein powder before I eat anything. Before a workout I add one scoop of tjis and a scoop of protein powder. When I don't workout I only add a tiny amount of the protein because it's chocolate flavored and realy helps me chug this down easier. I add it to about 6 oz water and then drink more water right after. It is important to stay hydrated.
I have given them to family members in hopes it will help them, especially my mom because women lose bone density with age and I worry.
A side note, get a face mask when handling it. It is very bad to inhale this as it will forever become embedded in your lungs. I put some in a glass jar for ease or access and store the big bag in a big zip lock bag. The jar helps so I don't have to deal with all the powder the bag fluffs into the air until it's refill time.
