Why anyone would put a knife in the dishwasher is astounding.

The time it takes to wash, disinfect and wipe a knife is literally seconds.

A good knife is like the King of your Kitchen.
It’s the Royalty of your Kitchen.
Along with our good Pans.

They shouldn’t be pounded by harsh detergents and flailing food particles that beat them into submission.

Even the most advanced dishwashers are not kind to our kitchen tools.
A good hand washing is plenty good for sanitizing things.

Even a busy mom or dad can take 10 minutes or so out of their busy day to do a proper wash up of a knife or pan.

Or pay the kid to do it.

Reading Kitchen Confidential (great book!) and Anthony Bourdain wrote that this was the knife I needed so I ordered it. I have a drawer full of useless knives and was contemplating a 'good set' (aka expensive). I am just a mom looking to prepare meals though, so I took a chance on Bourdain's inexpensive suggestion. I am SO glad I read this passage and ordered this knife! It's amazing to me how easily this knife cuts fruit and vegetables. And the price (I paid $23 on here) is equally amazing. I love the handle too. I had never seen a knife shaped like this but the idea really works. I feel like I have more control when I am cutting. I hope Bourdain gets a cut from all the business because a lot of the reviews reference the same book passage as being their motivation to buy this knife too!

(UPDATE): it's about four years later and the knife still cuts really well. I bought my mom an identical replacement, and she gave me the old one I ordered a few years ago. There's no need for me to look for any other chef's knife, would still highly recommend this product.

Bought this for my mom after reading about this type of knife in one of Anthony Bourdain's books. She loves it and uses it for everything one would use a regular chef's knife for. She has arthritis and mentioned to me that this knife was the first in a long time that didn't hurt for her to use, as the placement of the handle and extremely sharp edge give really good leverage.

As Bourdain recommends, ... and I now agree it is good for everything, including carving meat, which if you read enough reviews, you'll find the same information. Looks odd, no doubt. But performs like a champ. Good purchase, and would definitely recommend it.
