The style is modern, there is better air circulation when not fully closed and the fabric won't easily catch blunt or sharp objects like polyester nylon can. It is not heavy and the fabric does not act like spaghetti so carrying it when it warms up is not a circus act trying to keep it from sliding out from under your arm (I don't think anyone walks with their jacket held by the collar. It is usually shoved under one arm.)
I have gone from traveller to commuter and this is the perfect jacket for fall, winter and spring and won't make you sweat when walking to and from the bus, train or light rail.
I ordered a Size Large with long sleeves because my old large with regular sleeves fits ridiculously short. The Large/Long I ordered fit ridiculously long, so I rolled up the cuffs and buttoned them to shorten the sleeve. Perhaps it'll shrink up a bit after it's first wash, but I'm not betting on it.
Other than the fitment the jacket is what you'd expect, rain repellent, durable, cheap and goes with most anything. If you've never bought a Dickie's jacket before be warned they're not a cold weather option unless you're wearing something underneath ( a hoody, sweater, whatever). However they're perfect for the odd fall months where it's wise to layer.
The sleeves are too long for my arm, but i love the length and width of the jacket. So all i have to do is roll up the sleeves a bit and i'm set.
Really comfortable and warm, but if you're planning on buying, definitely make sure you look at the sizes carefully.
I didn't want to return the jacket, mainly because i did not want to go through the hassle of the process. As well as not being sure if the next size would fit better or worse. So i decided the size i got would do with rolling up the sleeves.
Update Jan. 2017. Amazon sent me a replacement jacket due to the broken zipper. After 3 weeks that zipper also broke. Tweaking it with pliers will get me through a week, but I have to readjust the zipper every week. This has been a big disappointment after my original Dickies jacket. Quality has really gone down hill.
Otherwise, it's pretty standard Dickies fare. Tough, durable material, made well, will last. Will update once the jacket is worn in, but for now, I'm very pleased. The star off is for the incredible stiffness (which is again, expected with dickies stuff.)
I can do a thermal under my uniform shirt and still feel like it fits.
Washes like a dream. Gray is very forgiving, black looks sharp.
I have 3 of these now, got one a size bigger that allows a thermal and a hoodie under it.
