Maybe when the last review was written the editors had not modified it, but it has the tone marks at the pinyins. Besides, it has both the traditional and the simplified ideographs. That are not handwritten, but graphically perfect. It is practical: in alphabetical order. One thousand of the most commonly used idioms ( chengyu ) are intelligently described both in the literal chinese meaning (in english) and the meaning correspondence with the occidental! Chengyu is a compact phrase - usually with four ideographs - that is derived from ancient Chinese literature. For this reason it is cherished by generations of Chinese speakers. It enriches any speech. Great, really great !

Although this book has a useful list of Chinese idioms, it contained many grammatical errors, incorrect phonetic spelling of Chinese characters, and incorrect tone markings. To the unknowing student of the Chinese language these errors could cause a lot of misunderstanding. A revised edition should be published that is free of these errors.

I agree with the previous reviewer - if this book had tone marks with the PinYin, it would rate a full star higher! The Chinese is a little difficult to read (I'm just starting out learning Chinese) due to the typesetting fint used. I like the organization - based upon the first Chinese character in the phrase - you can find related phrases together.

I have no trouble recemmending this book, but could be much more enthusiastic if there were a couple printing changes made.

The book arrived quickly and I was excited to look at it.
I have had it for about two weeks and am happy with what I see so far.
I am researching Chinese idioms and this book will be a good reference for me.
