Editorial Reviews

“[T]he ideas contained within are worth pondering for a future that may eventually include a return to a somewhat normal financial life….So why is this book by Bill Perkins…worth your time? Because it gets to the heart of two extremely important issues that you may be thinking about during these strange times: why you save and how you live….It’s an intriguing idea.” – New York Times

“He’s not offering a steady plan to save for the future while still enjoying your life; he’s offering ways to be more present now, so you don’t look back on would’ves, could’ves, and should’ves later in life.” – SUCCESS Magazine

"If you're wondering what the secret sauce is to living your life to the fullest at every stage without running your resources dry, then crack open this practical, timely book.”
Barbara Corcoran, Shark on Shark Tank, Founder of The Corcoran Group

James Altucher, American hedge-fund manager, best-selling author, podcaster and entrepreneur

Read it and reap a richer, fuller and more exciting life."
W. Randall Jones, Managing Director, Patriarch Partners, LLC and author of The Richest Man inTown
"In Die with Zero, Perkins presents a life-altering argument that we really need to start focusing on living our richest lives now, rather than waiting for our so-called golden years. I wholeheartedly agree. Read this book, change your thinking, and wake up to accumulating experiences now before it's too late."
David Bach,New York Times best-selling author, including The Automatic Millionaire and The LatteFactor --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

About the Author

Called the “Last Cowboy” of hedge funds by the Wall Street Journal, Bill Perkins is considered one of the most successful energy traders in history. He’s reported to have generated more than $1 billion for his previous firm during a five-year period.
After studying electrical engineering at the University of Iowa, Perkins trained on Wall Street and later moved to Houston, Texas, where he made a fortune as an energy trader.
At the age of 51, Perkins’s professional life includes work as a hedge fund manager with more than $120 million in assets, Hollywood film producer, high-stakes tournament poker player, and the resident “Indiana Jones” for several charities.
Perkins manages this via smartphone on his yacht in the U.S. Virgin Islands, while traveling the world with close friends and family. --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best personal development & finance book I've read in 20 years.
By Ed Green on August 26, 2020
Not since reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss have I been so affected by an idea. Die With Zero by Bill Perkins introduces a compelling concept centered on modeling your life based on what phase you're in. It will force you to truly question your fear-based way of working hard and saving like a fiend. It's well-written and sincere. After reading it, I made some major shifts in my life. My relationship has been better, and my fulfillment with work has improved. I feel like a gray cloud has parted and I've unplugged from autopilot mode. I've recommended this book to everyone I care about — my friends, family, and loved ones. I cannot recommend this book enough. Thanks for introducing it to the world, Bill!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bounce the check to the undertaker!
By Dr Brian Keating on November 27, 2020
Bill is on to something.

Death is everyone’s final destination. Alfred Nobel tried and — spoiler alert— failed, to avoid the ultimate laureate: the Grim Reaper.

The Nobel Prizes are awarded, not on Alfred’s birthday, but on his death day: 10 December! And, since 1974, you can’t win a Nobel Prize posthumously, a stipulation I criticize often.

I discussed Alfred’s other estate planning failures with Bill Perkins, author of DIE WITH ZERO. This book makes a nice counterpoint to Paul Sutter’s book, DIE WITH ZERO.

Bill made me think about life’s ultimate currency: experiences with those you love. Bill is a former engineer and approaches estate planning with scientific precision. Check it out. You won’t be depressed. If you are, I’ll return your money...but you won’t be able to take it with you. 😂

Even The Torah depicts the Patriarch Abraham dying with zero:

He gives “gifts” to his children with Keturah.

He buys the best grave for Sarah with 400 enormous silver coins.

He sends his choicest camels with Eliezer to provide for Isaac.

For what matters, you never ask the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight into the REAL winning in Life!
By Yale Hamrick on August 1, 2020
Great insight by Bill here on how to really win in life! Not just financially, like most Americans think is the real bar. This book is most beneficially for the people who are already winning, and can enjoy some of life’s pleasures early, instead of waiting until the “golden years” so to speak. I highly recommend this book to everyone and especially those who are putting off years of enjoyment now, for years later. The people who are wasting life energy, just trying to obtain more and more wealth. You da man Bill, thanks for the great read and enjoy brother!
