The cons: No small screen to actually read any texts. The BT range doesn't go all; that far, so the music control is less than optimal. The app and BT connection drain your phone battery quickly; you will definitely notice a difference. The advertisements and paperwork are very vague as to what it can do (because it can't do all that much). All instructions are in the app (not in the box).
Upon opening the box unlike any other watch I've owned it does not operate - it must be linked with their phone app. So, first you download the app and of course you have to create an account and agree to their privacy policies, etc. The bluetooth linkup was easy and then the time showed up on the watch after a calibration procedure.
Initial impression is an industrial type design which is actually a lot larger than my Apple watch (see picture). I was planning on wearing them both on the same wrist for a day to compare step counts, etc. The case on this watch is very rough, however, and that would have left my Apple watch severely scratched on that side - so I did testing with it on the right wrist. If you wear a bracelet or anything with this watch, it will get scratched.
I wore it for several hours doing some work around the house and a short workout. The step counts seemed accurate and similar to my Apple watch counts.
Style (assuming you like the look)
Large (assuming you like a very large watch)
Very solidly built / heavy
Must be linked with phone
No second hand (I work in the medical field and need one for checking pulse)
Overall, I'm not too impressed with this offering for reasons above especially at this high price point.
This is a very basic smart watch. It basically has an accelerometer that tracks your movements to count steps and track your sleep patterns. Other smart watches also track your pulse rate (which would give you more accurate sleep and workout data), but this feature is a serious battery hog, and it is evident that Diesel is marketing a watch that doesn't need to be recharged frequently. They advertise a 6 month battery life, which is quite good for a smart watch. There is no digital display on this watch, and any information it communicates is through the positions of the hour and minute hands.
The app is actually quite good on how it presents the data in a simple manner that shows how you did hourly, by day, week, and month. Note that the app is required to track steps and sleep; there is no way to find that information on the watch display.
The sleep patterns are not perfect, but close enough. It differentiates between awake time, light sleep, and restful sleep. It's hard to judge its accuracy, but there are times I know that I was awake that showed that I was in a period of light sleep.
They watch display shows time by default, but note that there is no second hand. There are 3 buttons to the right of the display. The first button shows the last call received, where it highlights the numbers 1 through 6 by placing both hands on that number. These numbers are programed in the app. For example, I've set 1 to be for my wife. Whenever she calls both hands go to the '1' location and the watch vibrates. If for some reason I wasn't able to look at the watch on time, I could push the top button and see that it was my wife.
The second button will do two things. First it will show the time in an alternate time zone. The second push will give you the day of the week and the day of the month. The small hand goes to the day of the week and the large hand goes to the day of the month. These days and numbers are displayed in red in very small letters and numbers on the edge of the watch. I find these nearly impossible to read, even with reading glasses. This is one of the major complaints I have with the watch.
The last button links with your phone and will perform one of following functions: Ring Phone, Music Controls, Take Photo, or Goal tracking.
Ring phone simply rings your phone with a ringtone of your choice. Good for trying to find a lost phone.
Music controls will pause/play, skip, or go to previous song depending on how you press the button.
Take photo will take a photo. I used it to do a selfie that I didn't want to look like a selfie since I didn't have to hold the phone in front of me, just prop it someplace.
Goal tracking simply counts how many times you push the button. For example, you can set a goal to drink water 5 times a day. Every time you drink water, you push the button. When you go into the app, you can see how many times you pushed the button.
This watch is marketed for its fashion, its simplicity, and its long battery life. It is a very basic smart watch and is not in the same class as an Apple Watch.
Given how hard it is for me to read the date information (which is important to me), I will probably donate this watch to my son who likes its looks and has good enough eyesight to read the display.
