Comment: This book has already been loved by someone else. It MIGHT have some wear and tear on the edges, have some markings in it, or be an ex-library book. Over-all it is still a good book at a great price! (if it is supposed to contain a CD or access code, that may be missing)

I received the Diet and Exercise Diary as a "just-because" gift. It transformed my approach to managing my daily food intake. Rather than just getting a number, you can do an in-depth analysis of the quality of food you put in your body.
But the book doesn't stop there. It is a really powerful tool for managing your diet/exercise lifestyle. There is an initial START-OF-YEAR (which can be anytime during the year)assessment where you tell all! Weight, BMI, resting and active heart rate, chest measurement, waist measurement, bicepts...EVERYTHING! Weekly planning sections. Weekly Personal Summaries. Monthly summaries. Yearly weight graph that lets you plot your weight and visually see your progress (or lack thereof).
Each week there is a section to PLAN your daily exercise. Then there is a PAGE each week to record your actual exercise. There is a section for STRENGTH TRAINING, CARDIO TRAINING and INCIDENTAL EXERCISE. (In my case, I need a section for ACCIDENTAL exercise, because the exercise sections are blank throughout the book.) Pages 3-13 give a very accurate and understandable overview of proper nutrition and exercise basics.
If you are serious about getting back to your target weight and fitness, this book is THE FIRST BOOK YOU SHOULD OWN. It gives a complete picture of your day-to-day eating and exercise. You can look back over the pages and see how each hourly, daily, weekly choice impacted your diet. For example, I gained 3 pounds the week before last, so I went back to a week when I lost 3 pounds and just followed that eating schedule and was able to drop the 3 pounds.
And, the book is a significant historical document. Just think...

I can not begin to count how many notebooks I've used to create my own diet and fitness journal. My son probably could because he ends up with them after a few days or weeks. I pledged this year was going to be the year. I happen to find this book in the bargain section of a local bookstore. I absolutely love it...so much that I'm here mid-year ordering one for 2011. I have no cons for the diary, but many pros. First, it is designed for an entire year. None of the others I've looked at did that. It's set up for a week at a time, Monday through Sunday. It takes into account your workouts plus incidental which means the things you do like shopping, housework, gardening, etc. that you might not consider a workout. Other things such as an end of the week reflection part, charting area, planner, and beginning/ending measurement comparison. Most importantly for me though...it keeps me motivated and on track. When I go to eat I think about my choices and what I've already had for the day. I plan my workouts. I weigh weekly to record the info, check my BMI, and know how I've done. To date I've lost 10 1/2 pounds. YEAH!!!! If you're looking for a great workout and fitness journal combined this one would be an excellent choice!

I did not buy this book through Amazon, but through Borders in their clearance section. I saw it as I passing through the store with my two year old daughter and glanced through it really quick before deciding to buy it. That would normally be a bad thing, but I have been pleasantly surprised with my purchase. I really like the intro to the book, even though I have already taken a nutrition class and I don't need the refresher, I liked that it was there for other people (especially the people who have tried the dangerous, fad diets like Atkins). The book really emphasizes good health and not just losing weight. The start of the year assessment is great because it has you rank your satisfaction with your weight, fitness, diet quality, strength level, endurance level, sleep quality, mood level, stress level, and energy level; which truly gives you an overall picture of your entire health. It has a place to list your goals for the year and also has a section for how many push-ups, crunches, and squats you can do without stopping and then a place to write your goal for those as well. It also has a place for a current photo of you.

After the start of the year assessment, you have your weekly entries (the bulk of the book). It has a place for your weight at the start of the week, your BMI at the start of the week, your planned calories intake and even a place to list possible diet-busting occasions for the week. Then you have a chart where you can list your planned exercise sessions. The individual entries for your food are a little small. I have big handwriting so I have to kind of squeeze my handwriting into the spaces. Also, if you do a lot of home cooking, there is not a place to list the ingredients and instead you have to do that on a separate piece of paper.

I like:
That it's for an entire year - I will not have to buy another book - saves $$$$
The way it's set up on a weekly basis
The way the daily pages are set up
There's plenty of space to record my exercise
The price

The writing is a bit small but it doesn't affect me. It's easy to personalize.
Overall this book has everything I need. I'm almost done with my first week and I love it.
