From the Publisher

Diet & Fitness Journal: 'Personal trainer' and BFF all in one!

Studies show that those who record their diet and exercise progress lose twice as much weight as those who don't.

If you bite it, write it!

On the Food Log page, you'll find columns for Calories, Fat, Sodium, Carbs, Fiber, Protein, plus an extra column to track one additional category of your choosing.

Track Breakfast, your mid-morning Snack, Lunch, a mid-afternoon Snack, Dinner, and an evening Snack.

You'll also find places in which to record your daily Food Goals, and how much Water and how many Fruits and Vegetables you consumed today.

Track your activity.

On the Fitness Log page, you can record Cardio or other activity and Time of Day. You'll find columns for Heart Rate, Duration, Speed, Level, Intensity, Other (your choosing), and Calories Used.

Into weight training? There's a section for that, too, with columns for Muscle Group, Reps, Sets, Duration, Intensity, and Other (your choosing).

Take stock of calories, supplements, mood, and more.

A quick-reference calorie guide lists the nutritional content of many popular foods. Record Calories Consumed, subtract Calories Used, enter Net Calories, subtract BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), and determine your Net Calorie Deficit. (A 3,500 calorie deficit will equal 1 pound of weight loss).

That's not all -note the Vitamins and Supplements you took today, check off that you met your daily Goal (yes, you will!), and note your Mood and Energy Level.

There are even a few lines - called Notes/Journal -to write about your day.

Progress!

In the Weekly Progress pages, you can record Last Week's and Current Weight, BMI, Heart Rate, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, and a category of your choosing, as well as physical measurements, Daily Calorie Deficits, and Waist Hip Ratio.

There's a Notes/Journal section, too, so you can write about your week. You'll also find a place to record your Goals for Next Week.

Gets the job done.

Provides 14 weeks -that's 3-1/2 months! -of logbook pages.

This attractive Journal delivers 14 weeks of easy-to-use tracking pages, along with food and fitness resources, helpful hints -even weekly Tips of the Week accompanied by thoughtful motivational quotations.

Discreet black book.

Remove the orange, blue, and white cover label -it slips right off -and you simply have a sleek black book. Perfect for those who don't want to advertise that they're tracking their food intake and fitness activity. Take it everywhere!

You got this!

Portable 4-1/2-inch wide by 7-1/2-inch high size and sturdy concealed wire-o hardcover binding means you can write anywhere! Keep your logbook in your purse, tote, or workout bag -everything's at your fingertips!

  • This all-in-one Journal is divided into easy-to-use sections:
  • An encouraging and informative introduction about diet, nutrition, and fitness -from an author who's been in your shoes.
  • Journal pages in which to log your daily food intake and energy expenditure from activity.
  • Weekly progress pages.

  • A 'keep-motivated' personal progress chart in the back.

Our Company History

In 1928, at the age of twenty-two, Peter Beilenson began printing books on a small press in the basement of his parents’ home in Larchmont, New York. Peter -and later, his wife, Edna -sought to create fine books that sold at prices even a pauper could afford.

Today, still family owned and operated, Peter Pauper Press continues to honor our founders’ legacy -and our customers’ expectations -of beauty, quality, and value.

I'm about to order this Little Black Journal for the third time. Each time, I've browsed the other diaries on Amazon, and keep coming back.

The look and feel of the diary is nice. I like the band bookmark. I like how the spiral binding allows it to lay nice and flat for writing, yet the cover/binding covers the spiral for a clean look.

There is plenty of details in the columns with the food tracking. I like that the last column is flexible. Other journals don't have quite the detail here, and I really appreciate it. This is the main reason I keep coming back! I don't always track every column, but the flexibility is nice.

There is good space to jot down exercise. If you had an extensive weight lifting routine you might run out of room, but there seems to be generally enough space.

I like tracking my measurements. It has given me "non-scale victories" when the scale has refused to move.

The tables in the back are helpful when nutrition data is scarce. I underline foods I frequently eat for faster reference.

A couple of minor things: I tend to run out of lines for food records, but am able to squeeze everything in with my tiny handwriting. My only other minor complaint is to have a year's worth of pages... but I am willing to tolerate these minor things when considering the convenient size of the book. To accommodate more lines or more pages would make the volume unwieldy.

Overall, I love this book and am happy to submit another order.

March 2013 UPDATE:
I am still pleased and ordering this journal yet again. :) The orange paper label comes off, the black cover is quite unassuming and I don't mind letting it sit out on my desk at the office. Still has great space for my needs, I like to use the final column for Weight Watchers points tracking. Thanks again for a great product!

This is a great journal. It is small enough to carry in your purse (if you have big purses like I do!), has a durable cover and a lot of pages to last a while. There are boxes to enter in a lot of information, I ended up only utilizing the amounts I was interested in, but for the first couple weeks I was fascinated to see how much sodium and carbs I was taking in daily!

This journal really keeps me on track to hit my health goals, and the tips in the front are short, sweet, and actually really useful! I recommend this to anyone looking for an easy way to track their intake, which I think is important if you are trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or just live a healthier lifestyle.

I liked this journal, still currently using it. I love all of the great, straight-forward information in the beginning of the journal. I love having weekly weigh-in, an opportunity to write a 2-3 sentence daily reflection and an opportunity to write down my workout and my food consumption. The major con is that if you don't have a mechanical pencil or a sharpened pencil or fine point pen, it will be very difficult to keep your notations within the small boxes/lines provided. I am thinking to re-order. I've only been using for 7 weeks now. Since the beginning I'm amazed at learning what the calorie content is of what I'm eating. It has allowed me to see my faults and make better choices and I feel better as well as look better. Journaling is something I want to do forever. If I'm unable to use this or at time when I don't feel like looking for a sharpened pencil, I will use [fitclick]. I use them cojointly. That site is free but when you don't have a computer, this journal is the ticket to a hot body and high consciousness to make a life change!

Update 1/12/10
So, I am almost done with the journal. I like the size and the fact that I can tote it in my purse; however again the spaces are tiny so I often input my data on fitclick and use the two concurrently just in case I don't have access to a computer etc. I like the fact that you can pretty much tell how much weight you will lose per week based on calculating your calories consumed, calories used, net calories and the basal metabolic rate. I enjoy being able to track my weekly progress stats (weight/measurements and thoughts). Cool book, I think I want it again, but may opt for a different style to try them on. If I am not satisfied with the next, I will come back to this one. About to order another journal as of today.

I love this journal. It's small and easy to carry with me. I really like how the pages are designed, because it makes it easy to record and track whatever is important to you. At the end of every week, there is an end-of-the-week section where you may gain a larger perspective of your performance for the week. I have had other diet journals in the past, and I definitely like this one the best.

The only thing I disliked was the nutritional information in the back. I understand the book is small, so it's difficult to make this comprehensive. However, it would be helpful if the columns were organized in the same order as the daily data sheets. It would also be helpful if they included the same nutritional information as suggested to record on the daily sheets. Usually I use online nutritional information or I just use the nutritional panels on the back of the package, so it's not really that big of a deal.

Overall, I would definitely buy this book again!!!

would love it but the lines are so small you can barely write a full word and the columns for the calories/fat etc. are way way to small. The book would be a great help if it was not so awkward to use. I was disappointed because it is so difficult to write in that it became a HUGE chore to use it and after less than a month I sort of gave up on it. I have use food journals in the past and kept at them for months at a time but this one is so difficult to write in that it became a chore I wanted to avoid.
If they published a better version I would love that but not this one.

If you're serious about getting healthier, this diet & fitness journal will help you reach your goals. I love several features, well actually almost all the features! It has spaces for all the meals & snacks in the day & columns for all the typical nutritional content that people would want to keep track of. There is even an extra column for 'other' which would be great for people on Weight Watchers or other programs for them to track their points. On the right page it has a place for your workout information, vitamin intake, mood, small journal space, etc. I like that it has a place for body measurements, weight, BMI, etc., but I'm not going to check most of those things weekly - except weight. As I've found myself becoming more comfortable with my new eating habits, I've been a little less strict about filling this out, but I know that anytime I'm not seeing the progress I need to all I have to do is fill out this book & I'll get back on track. It keeps you aware of your consumption & helps keep you honest! I've lost 40#s in 47 days & this book has been one of several tools that helped that happen! Good luck reaching your goals!

I bought this book in person a few years ago and it helped me keep my diet and choices under control. I had to get it again because it was so effective. Pros: - lots of information on healthy options, exercise, and well being - weekly place to leave your weight and measurements - clear framework for journaling - convenient size - unmarked cover for discretion Cons: - small writing spaces - weekly weigh-in is at the end of the week instead of the beginning (I would prefer it at the beginning) - No bookmark connected so finding your page may be a little annoying
