Diet & Fitness Journal: 'Personal trainer' and BFF all in one!
Studies show that those who record their diet and exercise progress lose twice as much weight as those who don't.
If you bite it, write it!
On the Food Log page, you'll find columns for Calories, Fat, Sodium, Carbs, Fiber, Protein, plus an extra column to track one additional category of your choosing.
Track Breakfast, your mid-morning Snack, Lunch, a mid-afternoon Snack, Dinner, and an evening Snack.
You'll also find places in which to record your daily Food Goals, and how much Water and how many Fruits and Vegetables you consumed today.
Track your activity.
On the Fitness Log page, you can record Cardio or other activity and Time of Day. You'll find columns for Heart Rate, Duration, Speed, Level, Intensity, Other (your choosing), and Calories Used.
Into weight training? There's a section for that, too, with columns for Muscle Group, Reps, Sets, Duration, Intensity, and Other (your choosing).
Take stock of calories, supplements, mood, and more.
A quick-reference calorie guide lists the nutritional content of many popular foods. Record Calories Consumed, subtract Calories Used, enter Net Calories, subtract BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), and determine your Net Calorie Deficit. (A 3,500 calorie deficit will equal 1 pound of weight loss).
That's not all -note the Vitamins and Supplements you took today, check off that you met your daily Goal (yes, you will!), and note your Mood and Energy Level.
There are even a few lines - called Notes/Journal -to write about your day.
Progress!
In the Weekly Progress pages, you can record Last Week's and Current Weight, BMI, Heart Rate, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, and a category of your choosing, as well as physical measurements, Daily Calorie Deficits, and Waist Hip Ratio.
There's a Notes/Journal section, too, so you can write about your week. You'll also find a place to record your Goals for Next Week.
Gets the job done.

The look and feel of the diary is nice. I like the band bookmark. I like how the spiral binding allows it to lay nice and flat for writing, yet the cover/binding covers the spiral for a clean look.
There is plenty of details in the columns with the food tracking. I like that the last column is flexible. Other journals don't have quite the detail here, and I really appreciate it. This is the main reason I keep coming back! I don't always track every column, but the flexibility is nice.
There is good space to jot down exercise. If you had an extensive weight lifting routine you might run out of room, but there seems to be generally enough space.
I like tracking my measurements. It has given me "non-scale victories" when the scale has refused to move.
The tables in the back are helpful when nutrition data is scarce. I underline foods I frequently eat for faster reference.
A couple of minor things: I tend to run out of lines for food records, but am able to squeeze everything in with my tiny handwriting. My only other minor complaint is to have a year's worth of pages... but I am willing to tolerate these minor things when considering the convenient size of the book. To accommodate more lines or more pages would make the volume unwieldy.
Overall, I love this book and am happy to submit another order.
March 2013 UPDATE:
I am still pleased and ordering this journal yet again. :) The orange paper label comes off, the black cover is quite unassuming and I don't mind letting it sit out on my desk at the office. Still has great space for my needs, I like to use the final column for Weight Watchers points tracking. Thanks again for a great product!
This journal really keeps me on track to hit my health goals, and the tips in the front are short, sweet, and actually really useful! I recommend this to anyone looking for an easy way to track their intake, which I think is important if you are trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or just live a healthier lifestyle.
Update 1/12/10
So, I am almost done with the journal. I like the size and the fact that I can tote it in my purse; however again the spaces are tiny so I often input my data on fitclick and use the two concurrently just in case I don't have access to a computer etc. I like the fact that you can pretty much tell how much weight you will lose per week based on calculating your calories consumed, calories used, net calories and the basal metabolic rate. I enjoy being able to track my weekly progress stats (weight/measurements and thoughts). Cool book, I think I want it again, but may opt for a different style to try them on. If I am not satisfied with the next, I will come back to this one. About to order another journal as of today.
The only thing I disliked was the nutritional information in the back. I understand the book is small, so it's difficult to make this comprehensive. However, it would be helpful if the columns were organized in the same order as the daily data sheets. It would also be helpful if they included the same nutritional information as suggested to record on the daily sheets. Usually I use online nutritional information or I just use the nutritional panels on the back of the package, so it's not really that big of a deal.
Overall, I would definitely buy this book again!!!
If they published a better version I would love that but not this one.

Pros:
- lots of information on healthy options, exercise, and well being
- weekly place to leave your weight and measurements
- clear framework for journaling
- convenient size
- unmarked cover for discretion
Cons:
- small writing spaces
- weekly weigh-in is at the end of the week instead of the beginning (I would prefer it at the beginning)
- No bookmark connected so finding your page may be a little annoying
