Told through a series of actual letters written between mentor Danny and mentee Gaetan, the reader will get an honest look into the lives of these two students. Their lives are difficult in ways most of us cannot imagine, but through their mentoring relationship, they are able to learn from each other in ways that no poverty initiative sent down from a government or school committee can offer.
This book presents an excellent model for all the good mentoring can do, and how it succeeds in helping people empower themselves, instead of the problematic model of forcing impoverished communities to wait for help from the outside. Highly recommended!
