I get the impression that these books were thoroughly and massively tested in classrooms by the authors. They were just so good in the way they presented information, and the little tidbits scattered all over. Also, in general, they were somewhat more detailed than their North-American counterparts. For instance, in this book, for example: "Singular points of a curve", "The Envelope of a Family of Curves", "Lyapunov's Theory of Stability."
They were also very cheap. Now they're expensive. IF they're charging you US$ 150,00 just think what they're charging for Anton's Calculus book (I'd stick with Piskunov, if I were you).
Very practical. And an objective reference to the busy professional that aims to go straight to the point.
I think it deserves 10 stars (5 to each volume).
This was widely used for the IIT JEE and as a First Year Math textbook in Engineering Colleges in India.
