An intriguing tale of murder, deception, romance, and international artifact smuggling will keep you turning the pages for more.

An intriguing story centered around an archeological team excavating in Mexico who unexpectantly stumble across the discovery of a lifetime due to an unforeseen earthquake. Two of the team's members end up murdered and a third renown archeologist is reported missing. Due to strained relations between the US and Mexico, the team's leader decides to ask the US for help in solving the case. A NSA team is dispatched to the scene and soon realize that there is more happening than originally reported. The story is tense but with a hint of humor to make it an enjoyable read. The characters come alive and keep you wondering what is coming next.

Like murder mysteries? You're going enjoy this book. Characters are well established and believable, even though this is book number nine! Plot plays out in an orderly manner with surprises along the way that you don't see coming with a startling ending! You will not want to put it down!

I love archeology and finding artifacts made this a good plot. It brought the dig to life, as well as the team working to uncover why the deaths in the team, and what was really going on. The investigation by the police was through and they had great esteem for the leader. With other thoughts of what maybe going on, they found a solution and the culpert. Another good story to the end.

I am not sure what I was expecting. I thought that it may be like a Dan Brown type novel but I didn't really get a sense of learning anything about the subject matter or area the novel was set. I thought it may be like a Clive Cussler novel or James Rollins novel but there wasn't a lot of action nor a sense of exploration. There was a bit of good old Agatha Christie "who done it" but wasn't anything new. The characters seemed very generic. This was a decent read (especially for free) and there were moments that were really interesting but I am not sure if I want any of the other books in the series.

Great mystery with lots of twists and turns. To solve the mystery the group splits into 3 each following different clues. Surprising and intricate ending.

Normally I do not read mystery or suspense books, however I made the choice based on the preface. The hook was set, I could not put the book down. Everything in the storyline is easy to follow but do not be fooled thinking you know the end game. All is tied together in the end and comes to a logical conclusion. Kudos to Steven F. Freeman, you have a new fan!

When I was a child, archeology fascinated me, especially all the tales of Egyptian tombs. The adventure in this book is compelling, complete with dangerous situations and unsolved mysteries. I loved the descriptions in the caves and the cruise ship. It’s got many twists and turns. A great read!

Stretches credibility

There didn't seem to be any explanation of how this team were together, and how they were funded. At one point it seemed that there involvement would be limited by funding, but later two were sent on a cruise and able to buy expensive artifacts. I also found it unbelievable that they could bring a teenager, who had been Afghani refugee, but spoke perfect English, on a mission. I felt that too much that had been explained in a previous book was left out.

This story line follows an international crime investigation at an archeological dig, with the potential of drugs, murder and the black market trade of items removed from the dig.
I really enjoyed this read as there were lots of twists and turns throughout the storyline to keep my attention.

An interesting read but somewhat lacking in historical content for me. Well written and twists and turns throughout and the final suspect was a surprise.

I pushed myself to read a couple of dozen pages but then remembered life is too short. It may appeal to young teens or to those who enjoy a very light 'chewing gum for the brain' read. The above said it was good to get it for free (thanks - it's the thought that counts).
